At Gumble Pinnacles, came 5th overall and 5th on the day (+9:40mins to Aston). Another hot sunny day but a more open course and my legs weren't feeling too bad. It was a chasing start so I was set off in 4th place in no man's land, 4mins adrift of Doyley and 4mins ahead of Alistair. Managed to lose 2mins on #2 which was a dead simple control on a rock in the open so was quite grumpy after that. It did give me the impetus to push through the open stuff though, which went pretty well and I was a bit more encouraged by my shape. I knew the last bit in the green would be hard and was full of best intentions to navigate carefully from the entry to the forest. Slight problem though was I managed to cross at the wrong crossing point! Schoolboy stuff. Did manage to relocate near the control but then my angles were all messed up so ended up making a bigger mistake in and around the circle, where Alistair duly popped up - another 3:30mins lost. We then played cat and mouse a bit over the last few, including a really dumb mistake at #26 of about 1min, before he then blitzed me up the hill to the last control. Good effort by the young lad. But I was pretty grumpy.
So an interesting weekend. Superb orienteering but lost a lot of confidence in my ability to both navigate and run at the same time, which is kind of important in orienteering. At least Grace managed to smash W21E :)
