Parkwood Springs, some nice valley, Northern General, Firth Park, Wancobink (gorgeous area, needs mapping), Meadowhall, Airport. Met Gracie at subway and she gave me a hot dog. Yummo. Then carried on round Tinsley golf course and back through Darnall and Attercliffe. I've already run today but I'm still going to go to Beeley and I'm not a divvy. Or maybe I am.

A very steady cruise round a short course at Beeley. Switched off a few times and made some silly mistakes. Still, it was nice to be out in amongst the bluebells with the sun shining (at times when I wasn't amongst the brambles and it was raining).

Hunters Bar, Porter Brook, Ringinglow, Burbage Edge, Roman Road, Limb Valley, Eccy Woods... Not too tired but calves and quads achey as hell. Got home and was able to empathise with what Dino's been going through for the past 10 years.

Quads are pretty wrecked from yesterday, but I ain't messin about this week cos I'm starting a career next week... Loxley Common, Bradfield(s), Damflask, Dungworth, Rivelin. Didn't feel at all tired but had to go very gingerly downhill and over stiles - I think it must have been the downhill through town yesterday that did it.

Still had the sore throat, but decided to run anyway and although I could tell it was there at first, I soon forgot about it. Main problem was that I forgot about the tram and decided to drive and the traffic was shocking so I didn't get to do a warm-up. Oh well, happy to just rock up and run 73 and get 10th (over 5000 ran). Never saw any mile markers so pacing and splits went out of the window. Got in a good tussle with a pack and kept shifting from 7th-14th during the race. And the support was great - kept seeing people I knew by the side of the road. Won't claim points for them though. Legs seized up at the end and I dropped 3 places. Didn't realise how far round the stadium the course went, so I thought I was on for sub-70, so a bit disappointed at the end. Reckon it would be doable if I decided I wanted to devote myself to road racing (I don't, this was my first). In the end, happy, and relieved to beat Sprotty (74.48) who ran a blinder. Grace was on fire - I hadn't even started looking for her when I noticed that she'd already finished - oops! She ran 87.09. We did a high-5 as we passed each other on Eccy Road.

Again, started off well and got into a sizeable lead with Nixon (snr) at #7. Ballsed up in the green and got passed by lots of people. Tiredness and tummy sickness set in and my feet started hurting and I, again, turned into a pussy. Just came back first, but should have given Neil and Oli a big advantage and didn't. They both had great runs and 2nd was a good result in the end. I've now got a massive open blister on my foot and I won't be able to run for a few days.

Started off well but got tired half way round and was a bit of a pussy after that and only hung on for a solid result, so 2nd was as much as I deserved really. Need to fight harder to win these things. A few wobbles but nothing major. Never had my brain go like that before. Enjoyed it and coped well with the terrain.

Set off fairly hard but legs weren't feeling great so struggled round the second half. Technique ok apart from a miss at 11, but control flow shocking cos of unfolding map at each control to punch (I didn't have a control card). Yep all good, not much else to say on that really.

Whoopdedoo 8x500m with 2mins rest. Legs stiff cos it was cold and wet. Tucked in behind little Sprot on the first 4, got ahead on 5-7 and got soundly thumped by Danger and Camel on the last. Haven't got that speed in my legs, but kept my pace up through all 8. Going through 400s in about 65-66.

Drove with Gracie to the caf in Rivelin then ran with her up to Packhorse bridge. She shot off up Coppice track, while I carried on out to the headstone. Had a sit down and decided I'd had enough of the run by this point, but of course was at the furthest point of the run. Back along the top of Rivelin. Muddy. Almost home and still no points, but picked up Mat-D in his car (2 points) and Sprotty in his nice new car too (2 more points) right at the last minute. Total 18.

Fun fun fun in the snow with lots of people running round all over the place. Felt like I had to punch a control every time I had a decision point (or even more often than that in some cases). Fluked the first one in the woods, but careful on the one after that. Other than that, dug in and made sure I got in the final with a good start.

| Nice of them to let Scott have a guest run. Course was basically basic. Foolishly thought I could get through a building on 2-3, and so did Scott by the look of things, so that made no difference overall. It played on my mind for the rest of the race, but I ran pretty well from then on. Running didn't feel all that natural, but pushed hard and must've been going well. Just the right side of Oli again, law of averages says he will beat me next time by a few seconds. Scott ran a good race - we crossed over near the end, hammering it perpendicular to each other, neither gonna slow down, then about 1 metre before collision we both slow down and almost hit each other. Then I decided I would bash in a door unless it opened cos the map said it wasn't there. But it slowly opened for me. Then I skidded across an indoor marble floor in my studs. Emit's pretty gay really - people congratulating me on 2nd but not being able to be happy til download cos of all the controls I fumbled and didn't get the brick in.
Aaaaanyway, a sweet weekend for me, rounded off with a trip to Kenilworth Castle and a Maccas (and I won a free McChicken sandwich). |

British Champion and I won 2 gorillas. Another close battle with Johnson which was decided at the last control. I started hard and wasted energy wobbling on the first few, but got into a groove pretty soon after. The map/control placement at 10 seemed a bit odd, although I didn't spend long enough looking at it to know for sure. Anyway, lost a bit of time on 10 and 11. After that didn't do too much too wrong - didn't risk too much and ran hard. Was trickier than I expected - no-one quite had the perfect run. Chuffed with the win and to join some great names on the trophy and in the UK Cup winners hall of fame.

Foxdal intervals. 20x90 seconds (30secs rec) up Endcliffe Parks, over to Limb Valley and back into Endcliffe. You couldn't make it up - you really couldn't: as I mounted the crest of the hill above Limb Valley, I see a shimmering of the sun reflecting off a head of grey hair. He's running towards me. Who can it be? Gavin Williams AGAIN! Stopped for a chat this time and bagged my 2 points. Got another 2 points seeing Rick O'Toole running a bit later on. Total of 8 points now. Felt alright.

Needed to loosen my legs off after circuit stiffness, but not sure if I feel any looser after this run. Out to Malin Bridge, along the Rivelin Valley road, up Hagg Hill to Crosspool and back down from there. I actually had to stop and take off my thermal on the way up the hill. I put it back on again at the top. There you go.

4x500m then 2x1km at the track. Haven't done reps that short/fast for a while, on top of all the aches and pains associated with circuits yesterday, meant I felt very heavy. Dunno what times I did the 500s in, but I was a fair bit behind Rob, then did the 1k's in about 3.10 at a more cruisy pace. Had a fish and chip reward for doing the session.
