| Kosciuszko National Park. Absolutely fantastic run. One of those that you'll just remember forever like when I went up Helvellyn with Sprotty on 1st Jan 2006. Gorgeous day. Got the chairlift up from Thredbo then ran with Gracie to the top of Mt Kosciuszko (highest in Australia). It must be the only mountain in the world that you're actually not allowed to run up cos they've put some gangway down that might break. Dumbasses. But we did anyway. Then we carried on for a bit and Gracie turned back while I carried on round a big loop. Running in snow above 2000m. They've even got fells in Australia! It was just like the Lake District or Scotland. Cut across a boggy bit and felt right at home. Then a mental descent under the chairlift cos it had closed by then. |

| shoes: asics traily things |
| Planned myself a course on Black Mt which I just cruised round quite nicely. Managed to find most of the ant hills I was looking for. I've been borrowing Gracie's old (and I mean old) thumb compass since I've been here. I've always used a baseplate in the past. Thumb compass seems quite nice. I always thought, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it,' so never considered changing. But a change is as good as a holiday. Hmmmm. |

 | Orienteering 1:25:00 [3] | |
| shoes: adidas swoops |
| With Shep, Jules and Martin. A longish course in Sparrow with some control pick sections which we did at 20sec intervals and some long legs which we took turns to lead. Big, entirely white, pine forest with nothing on the floor. Plenty of small (like really small) detail going on. Mmmmm sexy orienteering. Got whipped in the eye a few times but felt good and had lots of fun. |

 | Running intervals 24:00 [5] | |
| shoes: asics roady things |
| 5x1km (2mins recovery) at AIS track with Shep and Martin the Norwegian. This is the earliest interval session I've ever run (8am) but I actually felt ok. Some dude in a wheelchair kept whizzing past us. 3.06, 3.05, 3.05, 3.03, 3.02. |

| Down to Lake BG with Gracie and back. We were going to go kayaking but the place was shut, so we just had a coffee and came home. |

| Late afternoon run up to the top of Black Mt and Mt Painter with Gracie. Nice evening for running, but would have been too cold for sitting outside with a cold beer. Hope that's not the end of the Aussie summer... |
Saturday Mar 24 |
 | Cycling 30:00 [2] | |
| |
| Round various car yards with Gracie in the rain. Actually, we only went to one, and got the first car we looked at, but Shep said Nissans are good so it's his fault if it dies. |

| Twighlight event at Mt Taylor. I was a bit tired but got some decent speed going and ran ok I think. A couple of slight wobbles and my map and control card kinda disintegrated (note to self, bring map bag next time) but it was fun. Jules ran 24.00. Then went to the yellow sub for some cold beers and a barbie and tried some kanga bangas. All good. |

| 5km Cross Country race at Acton Ferry. This one was entirely on tarmac. Running just in front of Jules for the first 4km, but he finished stronger and got under the 16min mark. Felt alright and pretty happy with my time but would've been nice not to fade. Came 3rd and enjoyed being in a good race. |

| Snowy Region Badge Event at Buckenderra. A bit more open and runnable today but still loads of rocks scattered about, so it was pretty much the kind of orienteering that I enjoy most. I felt pretty fresh and concentrated pretty good so didn't make any proper mistakes (except going to the wrong drinks point). The planner thought he'd given us lots of route choice, but there was never really much reason to leave the straight line. It was a weird shaped course too. But it was one of the most fun o experiences I've had in a long while :o) Blair was 2nd in 79mins. |

| ACT Middle Champs in Buckenderra. It was a bit of a shame there wasn't much competition, but it did mean I could just go out and enjoy the race and try and get the hang of the map and terrain without any pressure. It was a bit misty today and the forest was a bit thicker than I thought it might be. Most of it was pretty quick though and there were loads of rocks scattered about which made it really good fun. I missed all of the first 4 controls but got a bit better after that and caught Grant Bluett up near the end. We had some fun racing for a bit til he punched the wrong control and buggered off somewhere, so I finished alone. I took the win by 2.5mins and really enjoyed it, but I was maybe a bit too scrappy. |

| Just a steady one from home round Aranda, Black Mt etc.. Got a bit lost. |
 | Note | |
| |
| Today I was involved in my first ever proper car crash. Fortunately it wasn't my fault at all and no-one was hurt, but unfortunately my, well, Grace's, well, Grace's Mum's, car was completely mashed. Fortunately, the stupid bint who pulled out into me's car was completely mashed too. Unfortunately it's a right pain in the arse. |

| Mt Majura mass-start thingy. Basically rocked up without a compass and warm-up or any of that shit about 5 seconds before the start so just went haring off not knowing what to expect for my first taste of orienteering in Australia. It was class! A few wobbles but pretty good and ran ok and scared some kangaroos off. Not much competition there tonight. |
Tuesday Mar 13 |

| Collected in controls from Wednesday's night-o. Only 1 had been nicked. It was cold and wet. Nice to do something vaguely active again but I was oh so slow and I had to walk up a lot of hills. Probably because I've hardly eaten anything since Friday. |
Sunday Mar 4 |

| Spent the morning in bed reading GQ, the North American Orienteer, the Australian Orienteer and Skogsport (well, looking at the pictures of the latter). Then came back to Sheffield. Glad I went to the Lakes this weekend. |
