Friday Aug 31

Note
(rest day)
Took Gracie for a day out in Liverpool. I tried to tell her that Middleditch wouldn't be very happy if she became a Liverpool fan but she just wouldn't listen.

Thursday Aug 30

Note
(rest day)
Took Gracie down to Alton Towers. Queues were nuts but we got on all the best rides. Note to self: go back when it's not school holidays.

Wednesday Aug 29

Running long 1:55:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Took Gracie up Kinder. Grindsbrook, Kinder Low trig, downfall, gates, ammo box, Grindslow knoll. Quite a nice day. Lunch in Fox House. Lovely stuff.

Tuesday Aug 28

Running 47:00 [2]

Orienteering race (WOC middle final) 38:00 [5]
shoes: jalas o-shoes
Came 26th, ran pretty good, it was hot and tricky and thick and ages ago now. Lost a couple of minutes.
Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]
shoes: jalas o-shoes
Warm up (not down)

Tuesday Aug 21

Orienteering 30:00 [3]
shoes: jalas o-shoes
Back to the middle qual area and tried to do a short course with a bit more oomph. Unfortunately I got really really lost and had to ask Hel where I was.

Monday Aug 20

Orienteering race (WOC middle qual) 30:25 [5]
shoes: jalas o-shoes
Good job I wasn't 11secs slower really. Must've been my run in. Had an ok run in tricky terrain and 3rd start. Thought I'd coped pretty good though and I'd get in easily. But it tracked up and some people got towed in to places above me, so my name started plummeting.
Running warm up/down 30:00 [2]

Sunday Aug 19

Orienteering 31:00 [3]
shoes: jalas o-shoes
Middle model, including some controls at race pace and some jogging/walking through thick green.

Saturday Aug 18

Event: WOC 2007

Note
(rest day)
Rest day, I think. Although I may have done something. I can't remember. I defo watched the sprint qual tho.

Friday Aug 17

Orienteering 38:00 [3]

Thursday Aug 16

Wednesday Aug 15

Orienteering 39:00 [4]
shoes: jalas o-shoes
Chapaevka. Got the metro and bus there with Gracie and Jo which was a bit of an adventure. Orienteered ok, but no flags and heavy legs didn't help.

Tuesday Aug 14

Orienteering 27:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Other Bykovnia area. A bit nicer this time.
Running 35:00 [4]
Borrowed TDH's shoes cos I forgot mine and did a cruise round some park, including 7 1min reps (1 min rec) + a warm down jog with Gracie.

Monday Aug 13

Orienteering 41:00 [3]
shoes: jalas o-shoes
Bykovnia steady. Some mingy bits.

Sunday Aug 12

Note
(rest day)
Flying to Kiev

Saturday Aug 11

Note
(rest day)
Busy busy busy packing, tidying and drinking coffee at the Cafe in the Coppice (awesome place). Train down to Heathrow tonight, then off to Kiev early tomorrow morning. Sweet.

Friday Aug 10

Running 1:07:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Nice wee cruise out through tiddly paths out to the headstone. Stopped for 15mins to sit on the top and sunbathe (well, actually sat there for 10mins and spent 5mins trying to climb down) then reluctantly set off running again. Felt really tired and sleepy after it - not quite sure why. Saw a frog and got asked for directions twice. Interestingly.

Thursday Aug 9

Running intervals 40:00 [5]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
3x1min (10reps). Drove out to Damflask just below Dungworth (hehe) and did a well nice loop up through Ughill (hehe), Rod Moor (hehe), Moscar and back along Strines and Dale Dike (hehe) reservoirs. Was only gonna do 8reps but the last few were flat/downhill, it was a nice path and I was feeling really rather good.
Running 25:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
10mins before intervals and 15mins after.

Wednesday Aug 8

Running 49:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Another different loop in Rivelin. Felt pretty tired so didn't push very hard. They've fixed the bridge down the bottom and put new stepping-stones in. Interestingly enough.

Tuesday Aug 7

Running race (Bradwell Fell Race) 26:05 [5]4.5 mi (5:47 / mi) +200m 3:10 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Cracker evo and a good route in that you get all the climb done at the start. I did underestimate the hill a bit though and set off too hard and was screwed by the top. But I was in the lead and held on to it on the descent. Laces came undone so lost a bit of time being cautious near the end (don't wanna get injured now!). Never met the guy (Nick Swift) in 2nd before but he's in Dark Peak and it turned out he used to be my postie and knew that I'd lived on Roebuck Rd. Nice guy. Long hair.
Running warm up/down 35:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings

Monday Aug 6

Running intervals 30:00 [5]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
90x30s (15 reps). Stuck to big paths/roads and made it slightly downhill so I could try and run fast. Feeling good for a change.
Running 24:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
By doing the reps downhill I had to run up a big hill on my warm down. Cracker evo.

Sunday Aug 5

Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Pretty much the whole of Sheffield has gone to Scotland and left me all on my own. Didn't bother me tho cos it was a gorgeous, hot, sunny day and I did a well nice run up Back Tor, along Derwent Edge and back over Strines Moor. Managed to keep going a lot better today and almost felt good along the edge. Stopped to take a few photos (til my batteries ran out) and to climb up the Wheel Stones, so it wasn't a continuous effort. Drove home with the window open and no top on, so it must finally be summer in the UK (oooh 28, feels like 28 apparently). Just in time for them to close the whole countryside cos of Foot and Mouth probably.......
C • Summer my arse 1

Saturday Aug 4

Running 15:00 [4]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Upped the pace a bit which was fine while it was downhill but I had no energy on anything vaguely uphill. Mustn't quite be over my illness just yet. Oh well, I prescribe myself lots of food and lots of sleep :o) I'd make a nice doctor.
Running 24:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
The other bits of the run. Had to have a sit on a bench after my 'effort'. But it was a nice view. Top of Rivelin in towards Sheffield, down Tom Lane and up the parks.

Friday Aug 3

Running 1:13:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Not feeling very strong but kept going ok. Got to Stanage trig and decided I was tired so I'd come home so I cut straight across Rud Hill marsh. Wasn't actually as bad as I expected but I did have to walk across some of the tussocks. Cold's pretty much gone.

Thursday Aug 2

Note
(sick) (rest day)
Maybe getting better. Went to see Man Utd lose 3-2 against Inter last night. 73,000 people at a pre-season friendly - nuts.
Running 38:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Changed my mind on the rest day since it was a nice evening, I've just about finished writing my PhD and I decided I wasn't feeling *that* ill. Good to stretch the old legs out too. Round a couple of the Redmires Dams and back through Wyming Brook.

Wednesday Aug 1

Note
(sick) (rest day)
Not feeling great but at least it's progressing quite quickly
