| It's starting to look like this is gonna be my first 0 hour week for some time! Packing today, flying Thursday and Friday... I suppose I could do lots of running at the weekend. Or not. |

| Andy cooked me and Neil steak last night and bought beer and champagne. Then today I packed up and left Sheffield, then my parents took me out for dinner. Getting treated like this, I'm starting to think I should go to Oz more often. |

| Had my PhD viva tis arvy. I take back my comments about my internal examiner - he's a legend. He really didn't give a crap and I was out of there in a little over an hour, with only a handful of minor corrections, which I've already done. So I'm not a doctor quite yet, but I will be in the next couple of weeks, and I don't have any more work to do :o) And I'm off to Oz to see Gracie on Thursday! Sweet. |

| Andy was chomping at the bit to go for a run with me today and eventually I succumbed to his relentless badgering. I don't know how I'm going to manage to do any training this winter/summer without my training buddy driving me on and shouting motivationally at me. |

| Did some of the old skool loop but obviously starting at Lodge Moor it isn't a true old skool. I didn't really feel very strong or fast. I have a feeling Middleditch actually went for a run today, although I could be wrong. |

| Gareth's put intensity 2 so I guess I'd better. Out through Rivelin to Headstone, then over and round back of Redmires Dams. Glad Gareth left before the answers to the pub quiz - he'd have been dead smug that Destiny's Child are indeed the biggest ever all girl group, and that Mike Catt has played in 3 World Cup semis (and even more smug than that cos we changed his answer to Lawrance Delaglio after he'd left). D'oh. |

| Cos I only shower after I've been running, my cold's meant that I've started to get quite smelly. So I went for a run so that I could have a shower. Legs felt unused and heavy and not breathing well neither. But glad I got out, almost over my cold, a nice winter evening, and met a proper Yorkshire guy who told me that "one day ahl be fit as thee". |
 | Note | |
| |
| Is it always this cold in October, or am I going soft? I just noticed that I wrote "winter evening" without thinking about it, but really it's Autumn. Hmmmm. Doesn't really matter anyway, not gonna be my problem much longer! |

| Had my "Case Conference" with Derek, Dave and Nick. Scary stuff. Survived though and still in the squad! Starting to feel motivated too which is nice. However, not gonna do any proper stuff til viva done and I'm in temperatures above 20degrees. Fortunately that shouldn't be too far away... |

| Out on trespass, pole, High Neb... Then fancied a change so came straight across Hallam Moors, through them quarries above Redmires where I found a pornographic magazine - I was shocked and appalled at the filth inside, anyway, then I came through the woods by the waterworks and bumped into that funny short guy with the funny voice and curly afro in Dark Peak whose name I don't know and we ran back to Lodge Moor together chatting. |

| Whilst it was disappointing that WCH didn't get in the compass sport cup final, it did mean I could (a) have a few beers last night (b) not feel guilty about having a hangover (c) have a lie-in (d) not get scratched to bits at Blidworth (e) not get beaten by GG at Blidworth (f) not go to Blidworth (g) have a Sunday roast at the Three Merry Lads instead (h) do a gentle run later in the day to loosen my legs off. So I'm not really complaining. Rivelin dams, headstone, conduit, Wyming Brook - I like that loop. |

 | Running race (FRA Relay) 56:00 [4] | |
| shoes: jalas o-shoes |
| British Fell Running Relay Champs. Ran the 3rd (navigation leg) with Neil and pulled from 4th to 3rd, before Lloyd on last leg did the fastest time by 2mins to bring Dark Peak home in 2nd place :o) Wasn't really looking forward to it, but really enjoyed it in the end. Proper fell race with lots of terrain running, big hills, mud, thick mist (about 50m vis) - awesome fun. Felt like I was running quite well on the climbs, but can improve my descending. Opposite of last week - weird. |

| Nice wee jog out round the 2nd Redmires Dam and back through Wyming Brook. Legs rather stiff after footy yesterday. Saw the biggest stag I ever did see in Rivelin - didn't even know you got deer there. Huuuuuge antlers. |

| Went along to Dark Peak for once, mainly cos it meant I could get a pint in after, but the run was actually pretty good. Felt quite nippy on the roads - some bits pretty dark. Tim Tett lead the way for a bit, then it was down to Neil and me and we didn't quite go the right way. Don't really like running on busy roads in the dark. |

| Took my new swoops out for a spin so thought it best to stick to little paths/terrain which also made the run more fun. Quads still painful at first, but seemed better by the end and felt fairly fresh. Cut through the forbidden wood up near the pole - quite nice, Oli should map it when he's done Kinder, or maybe Neil could map it and we'd have a new map of it by 2010. Can't help wondering what goes on in that building up there. Hmmm. |

| Bit misty and cool today - kinda like it when it's like that. Took myself out to Burbage mines, Oxstones, Stanage trig, pole and trespass. Quads really tight at first - probably from throwing myself off mountains yesterday and not warming down after, but felt ok once they'd loosened off. Ran past a cow with a load of red shit hanging out of it's ass which I thought was a bit odd, then realised it was licking a newborn calf - awww. |
Sunday Oct 7 |
 | Running race (Ian Hodgson Relays) 1:16:00 [4] | |
| shoes: jalas o-shoes |
| Got stuck with a drugged-up Baker on last leg. Knew the hill (Fairfield) would be big but didn't know we'd be racing for so long. Don't think I've ever really done any actual races up proper mountains before so no wonder I'm not really that good at them. Just had to hang in there up the hill while Baker skipped along merrily, but did alright on the descent. Very nearly got caught by the Dark Peak vets team, but a fast finish made sure we weren't embarrased. Set off in 5th and came back in 5th.
Lesson of the day: fun though bum-sliding is, the soreness isn't worth it. |

| It was squirrel tastic out there today, don't think I've ever seen so many. Must be squirrel bank holiday or sommit. Even saw a couple of dead ones that had fallen out of a tree lying in a road. Guess they'd been fighting over a nut or something. Otherwise the run was quite dull and I felt a bit tired. Down to waterworks, up to Stanno ridge, down Spoon Lane, down Loxley Valley to Malin Bridge, up Rivelin Valley and up to top of Lodge Lane. |
