Orienteering race 1:05:53 [5] 12.4 km (5:19 / km) +410m 4:34 / km
shoes: adidas swoops
Snowy Region Badge Event at Buckenderra. A bit more open and runnable today but still loads of rocks scattered about, so it was pretty much the kind of orienteering that I enjoy most. I felt pretty fresh and concentrated pretty good so didn't make any proper mistakes (except going to the wrong drinks point). The planner thought he'd given us lots of route choice, but there was never really much reason to leave the straight line. It was a weird shaped course too. But it was one of the most fun o experiences I've had in a long while :o) Blair was 2nd in 79mins.

Orienteering race 31:00 [5] 4.9 km (6:20 / km) +175m 5:22 / km

ACT Middle Champs in Buckenderra. It was a bit of a shame there wasn't much competition, but it did mean I could just go out and enjoy the race and try and get the hang of the map and terrain without any pressure. It was a bit misty today and the forest was a bit thicker than I thought it might be. Most of it was pretty quick though and there were loads of rocks scattered about which made it really good fun. I missed all of the first 4 controls but got a bit better after that and caught Grant Bluett up near the end. We had some fun racing for a bit til he punched the wrong control and buggered off somewhere, so I finished alone. I took the win by 2.5mins and really enjoyed it, but I was maybe a bit too scrappy.

Just a steady one from home round Aranda, Black Mt etc.. Got a bit lost.
Note
Today I was involved in my first ever proper car crash. Fortunately it wasn't my fault at all and no-one was hurt, but unfortunately my, well, Grace's, well, Grace's Mum's, car was completely mashed. Fortunately, the stupid bint who pulled out into me's car was completely mashed too. Unfortunately it's a right pain in the arse.

Bit of an adventure round and up Black Mountain. All very nice but a bit hot and I was staggering by the end.

Nice evening run with Gracie up Ainslie where I discovered that a wallabie is different from a kangaroo. Legs were stiff.

Running 54:00 [3]

Did a lap of Lake Ginninderra. Pretty warm and I felt a bit tired and although I'm sure the tarmac cycle paths are lovely for cyclists I could've done with some dusty bush trails.

Orienteering race 25:00 [5] 5 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: adidas swoops
Mt Majura mass-start thingy. Basically rocked up without a compass and warm-up or any of that shit about 5 seconds before the start so just went haring off not knowing what to expect for my first taste of orienteering in Australia. It was class! A few wobbles but pretty good and ran ok and scared some kangaroos off. Not much competition there tonight.

Tuesday Mar 13

Running 41:00 [2]

Morning jog up the Pinnacle and Mt Painter where the views were frickin awesome. Legs felt much better today. Didn't see any kangaroos.

Cross Country at Commonwealth Park. Compared to what I'm used to cross-country being, this is a different sport. It was pretty much all on flat tarmac. Came 5th which I've got no idea whether is good or bad, but ran about as well as I could.

Monday Mar 12

Running 32:00 [3]

Round the Pinnacle Reserve. Thought I wasn't gonna see a kangaroo til I saw about 20 of the buggers. Weird creatures when you think about it. Legs were quite heavy.
Running 44:00 [2]
shoes: asics traily things
Evening run after Neighbours (didn't know who a lot of characters were) with Gracie round Mt Painter and Aranda. Only saw 2 kangaroos.
