Sunday Dec 9

Running long 3:43:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Ran with Gracie down the Golden Stairs and up Mt Solitary. Pretty wild out there: simply incredible scenery. Pretty warm day so took plenty of water and some jelly babies with me. Saw a MASSIVE black snake which I nearly trod on. Scary. At the top of Solitary Gracie turned round and ran back to the car and I carried on round a big loop back to Katoomba. Saw a MASSIVE lizard (we are talking huge here, like half way between crocodile and newt) and ANOTHER big snake. After 3hrs running hit the 800m ascent to Katoomba and that really hurt. Out in the humid, hot rainforest for nearly 5hrs in total and despite drinking at least 5 litres then eating a big fish and chips and having a McFlurry, I'd still lost a kilo. 9 hard days in a row, so feeling tired on the way home. What a fantastic weekend though :o)

Saturday Dec 8

Running 1:05:00 [2]

Had a weekend in the Blue Mountains near Sydney and stayed in Katoomba. Unfortunately it was really misty for my pre-breakie (11am) run with my girlfriend so we couldn't see anything from any of the lookouts. But the paths were cool and we had to descend (and then climb) up lots of steps and ladders. From Katoomba, down Linda Creek and up the Giant Stairway. I found my first ever leach on me in the shower.

My fiance dropped me off at the top of the Grand Canyon and I ran down and along it and up to Evans lookout. Stunning run and the mist had cleared. Through a tunnel, under big overhangs, huge cliffs towering above and a really deep, narrow gorge (pisses on Dovedale). Saw a big lizard and some lyre birds. Met Gracie at the lookout where a wedding was happening (must have been something in the misty air that day) and ran with her to Govetts Leap and back.

Friday Dec 7

Running intervals 30:00 [5]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
45x15s (30 reps) round Black Mt and Aranda on an undulating route. Pushed hard and rang a good litre or 2 of sweat out of my t-shirt at the end of the efforts.
Running 36:00 [3]

Out to Blackie and back from Aranda.

Thursday Dec 6

Running 1:40:00 [3]
shoes: Nike Air Zoom Vomero +2
Went exploring on tarmac cycle paths mainly round Weetangera, Scullin, Higgins, Kippax, Latham, Charnwood, Mt Roger, Spence, Evatt, McKellar and Belconnen. New shoes felt quite bouncy and nice but by the end my legs were heavy and I was gasping for the chocolate milk and powerade which I had straight after finishing. Canberra is a stupidly massive city with way too much space.

Went round some sneaky cycle paths with Gracie in the evening to burn off the huge pack of doritos we'd just quaffed.

Wednesday Dec 5

Running 1:11:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Out round Aranda, Little Black Mountain, Bruce ridge and Gossan Hill. Felt fine.
Orienteering race (Mulligan's Flat) 26:48 [5]6 km (4:28 / km)
shoes: adidas swoops
One of the fastest areas I've run on I reckon. Pretty flat, firm, semi-open bush with few paths. Lack of compass, some shocking mapping and a control in the wrong place meant I lost a bit of time, but a good hit out none-the-less. Thought I was racing Rob and Kez and co but after I'd finished Grace told me that she had known already that they weren't coming.

Running race (Stromlo xc 5km) 16:07 [5]
shoes: asics roady things
This one was 5km to the nearest centimetre on the new specially made cross country track out at Stromlo - an awesome facility. Lots of twists and turns and ups and downs, and a running surface like a golf fairway. Felt good and running on grass motivated me more so reckon that's why I got a better time. Laps 8.03 and 8.04 so a good even pace. Got in a good tussle with Dave Osmond (of backwards hill running fame) but he out "sprinted" me despite running barefoot.

Monday Dec 3

Running 1:22:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Wiggly loop round most of the paths in Blackie including the circumcision track. Felt pretty strong and was actually enjoying myself out in the rain. Good to see it's finally getting colder as we get closer to Christmas.
Running 35:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia somethings
Evening cruise round the Pinnacle with Gracie except in reverse and in the rain so it was dead exciting this time.
