Running 29:00 [3] 6.2 km (4:41 / km)

Pretty chilled day in Cairns - Florence loved the swimming pools at the coconut resort, then we caught up with Anthea and Gavin. I nipped out for a run when I got the chance, which happened to be at 3pm in 32 degrees and lots of humidity. All good for a laugh. Just out and back on a road.

(rest day)

Cave tour in Chillagoe, then drove to Mareeba and went to the Coffee Works. Walks in Granite Gorge (nice sprint map potential), Mareeba Wetlands and Barron Falls before arriving back in Cairns.

(rest day)

Packed up from Undara after a swim with Florence while Grace did a run. Then drove on a 100km dirt road through proper outback to Chillagoe. That was cool (not literally). Chillagoe was a nice little place with a cute caravan park. Did a short walk at balancing rock, then another at the old copper smelters, then to the pub for BBQ night (featuring Florence dancing to country music).

Running 41:00 [3] 8.7 km (4:43 / km)

2 nights at Undara, so spent the day doing a walk around a crater rim in the morning. In the early afternoon heat of the day, the Englishman in me decided it was a good time to do a run. Some good singletracks to explore though and took the binos with me too. Fortunately no snakes but no great birds either. Felt like I was in the proper outback here. Some excellent granite that would make for awesome orienteering. Quite similar to the NT NOLs we did a couple of years ago I reckon. But probably more problematic to ever get anyone to travel this far.

(rest day)

Set off (in rain) on a road trip inland. Once up onto the Atherton Tablelands the rain stopped. Went to Yungaburra, then a rainforest bushwalk at Mount Hypipamee (a name I will not remember), Ravenshoe, quick look at Millstream Falls, and on to Undara. Cracking National Park this with lava tunnels and great accommodation - we were in a converted railway carriage. Did an evening sunset wildlife tour, although most of the time was spent on top of a knoll in the middle of nowhere drinking champagne and eating nice cheese. The free nibbles in the outdoors was probably Florence's favourite part of the whole holiday.

Running 39:00 [3] 8.6 km (4:32 / km)

Chilled day in Cairns. Started off with swimming and playground at the caravan park, then in to town for coffee and more swimming at the lagoon (awesome). While Florence napped early arvo I headed out for a run in the sweltering humid heat. On a nice sealed bike path through rainforesty suburbs. Saw some interesting birds and after 20mins got confident enough to leave the tarmac and onto a walking track. Instantly saw a snake and instantly retreated to tarmac again. Oh well. Good to sweat out some lard/alcohol.

Drove from Stanthorpe to Brisbane Airport in the pouring rain, then flew up to Cairns for the start of a 10 day holiday in the sun :)
