Running intervals 30:00 [4] 7.5 km (4:00 / km) +170m 3:36 / km

After dropping Florence at daycare, nipped out for a morning interval session: 10x3mins on a big loop around Red Hill. Feeling really heavy-legged still though, so it was quite an effort and I never really got any kind of decent tempo going. It was warm as well, and very humid - sweated buckets! Still, did it.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 3.5 km (5:43 / km) +40m 5:24 / km

7mins up, 1min recoveries and 3mins down.

Running 44:00 [3] 9.1 km (4:50 / km) +190m 4:23 / km

Lunch run up Davo and Red Hill. It was quite hot and I was feeling really heavy-legged, so was quite a plod. Unsurprising really.

Running 46:00 [3] 7.5 km (6:08 / km) +350m 4:58 / km

Squeezed in a third Te Mata (a pas-sata perhaps?) in two days. This time with Kez, who was moving quite well and provided some much-appreciated company and conversation. Turned out the girls (Grace, Piret, Liis and Tessa) were being super-competitive and actually beat us to the top, much to their delight. We weren't afforded the chance to spend too long discussing the differences in the lengths of our different routes.

Running 56:00 [3] 10.3 km (5:26 / km) +370m 4:37 / km

Staying in Havelock North, so nipped out for an exploratory run of Te Mata (pronounced like a cockney might say 'Tomato') Peak from our bach. Cold and windy - which made a nice change. A very enjoyable run once on the footpaths though - some native bush, huge redwoods, then lots of open limestone country reminiscent of Malham/Kilnsey type places in England. Ended up doing the blue route to the summit, which was along a pretty cool ridgeline.

Orienteering 53:00 [3] 6.5 km (8:09 / km) +410m 6:12 / km

After some brunch headed back to Te Mata to try out one of their permanent courses, which I downloaded onto my iphone. No printer though so actually took my iphone as my map. The autorotate was quite annoying, so I had to orienteer like Blair. Plus sweatiness meant scrolling the map was tricky. But the main difficulty was the course itself - brutally steep in places to the extent that it was quite funny. I was very impressed someone went out and actually nailed control points to some of those trees. Still, good to get out again and revisit the summit.

Travelling to NZ (Hawkes Bay) for Bryn and Piret's wedding :)

Running 1:31:00 [3] 19.7 km (4:37 / km) +220m 4:22 / km

The usual longish IW, this time with Jasen, Sam and Mark Bourne - although Jasen seemed motivated by chat about toddlers and a work meeting, so we ended up dropping the other two. Felt pretty good, although a bit achy over the last few kms. New garmin seems to be doing funny things on a regular basis now - might have to look into getting a replacement.
