Running 36:00 [4] 8.0 km (4:30 / km) +280m 3:50 / km

Late arvo loop around Isaacs. Wintry shower just as I started so it was pretty chilly so I ended up running fairly hard just to stay warm. Couple of decent climbs and felt quite good.

Running 35:00 [3] 6.6 km (5:18 / km) +200m 4:36 / km

Ran around Mt Taylor with Tomas catching up on this, that and the other. Felt pretty good in the legs and not too sleepy after a good lie-in this morning. Pretty chilly wintry day.

Running 35:00 [3] 7.2 km (4:52 / km) +270m 4:06 / km

Lunch run up Black Mt. Not really got over jetlag yet - staying up til 10pm ok but waking up at like 4am. Not ideal. So this run was really about not falling asleep at work.

Running 51:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:06 / km) +310m 4:25 / km

Back to work :( it was a bit of a struggle with sleepiness but I got through the day. A run up Mt Ainslie at lunch helped. My legs were a bit tired but not too bad all told. Quite cool and windy but I enjoyed being back on firm trails again.

Feet hardly touched the ground today - a few minutes in Istanbul and even fewer in Manila. Trying to work out what to make of WOC. The orienteering in Latvia was very disappointing in three main ways: most frustratingly my own technical performances were poor (mistakes in the middle and route choices in the long); my physical shape was terrible (half because of the illness, half because I was unable to train specifically); and the terrain was pretty rubbish and unenjoyable. So some of that was avoidable on my part, some less so - I should have known what to expect though when I decided to go for WOC again. Ah well. There were plenty of positives about the trip though: it was great fun being a part of the team and we had a lot of laughs; Latvia was an interesting place to hang out in; and I got to spend some good quality time with my family who unfortunately I don’t get to see that often. And in terms of orienteering, the main positive about Latvia is that it has made me more appreciative of the great terrain we have down here and so I’m really looking forward to getting back into some of the more local orienteering and running events coming up.
