Orienteering race (SL - Badja) 1:12:34 [4] 11.3 km (6:25 / km) +400m 5:27 / km

Came 2nd, +2:27 to Andrew who's clearly finding some good form at the moment. A real treat to be back in Badja again - first time for me since just after we moved over here in 2011. As well as being some of the most challenging granite terrain in Oz, it's also a beautiful and varied forest to run through. Nice warm sunny day too. My orienteering wasn't all that special though. I set off a bit out of control and took a while to get into the scale - didn't really pick up a single feature for sure on the first leg and dropped over a minute there. Another bad start to a race for me. Got into it a bit after that but it all felt very clunky and I kept finding myself running off at funny angles (lack of proper compass since I broke my main one last weekend didn't help). Got very confused when it got a bit vague on me at #14 and made a bit of a parallel error in the small gullies - another couple of minutes of genuine stood still headscratching in there. Finished off ok. Thought the course could have done with some control picks and a few controls that were more tucked away, but it was still a great challenge and really good fun. Felt mostly fine in the legs but a bit tired and heavy.

Mainly a flattish roady run from home and around Lake Tuggers. Ended up on the trails on Farrer. Felt pretty relaxed and took it fairly easy. Still got a bit stiff towards the end though.

Another dark early morning run (last one of these for me, as the clocks changing will help). This time I tried a couple of 20min tempo sections, but a combination of the time of day and my old man legs meant it was a real struggle to get going. I'm not at all convinced about running at this time of day other than for practical reasons.

Another dark early morning run, this time up Taylor. Loads of people up and about walking up and down the mountain with torches, but there's hardly ever anyone in the evening.

Dark early morning loop around Taylor. Very forgettable (literally, because I was half asleep still).

Evening jog around Torrens. Legs not too bad today, but I'm pretty sleepy tired and my back's a bit sore.
