Running race 18:14 [5] 3.1 mi (5:53 / mi)
shoes: Asics Hyper XC

National XC Relays. The downward spiral continues, as I was slower than last year which was slower than the year before. On a positive note, I did run pretty even lap splits of 9.05 and 9.09.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [2] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Hyper XC

Running about before and after.

Friday Oct 30, 2009 #

Running 29:36 [2] 4.1 mi (7:13 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (3)

Roads. Easy.

Thursday Oct 29, 2009 #

Running 58:01 [2] 7.8 mi (7:26 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (3)

Road run with Rich. Hunters Bar, Rustlings Road, Tom Lane, Sandygate, Crookes, Hillsbro. Had trouble breathing at the beginning for some weird reason, but got better as the run went on.

Wednesday Oct 28, 2009 #

Running 35:30 [2] 5.0 mi (7:06 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (3)

IW. Felt awful. Legs tired, stomach sore, weak.

Tuesday Oct 27, 2009 #

Running 24:00 [5] 4.0 mi (6:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel-DS Racer VII

Track. 4 * 5 minutes with 65 seconds recovery. Not a good session at all tonight, and really struggled, with my distance covered dropping dramatically through the reps. Got stuck at work, so had to run hard to get to there, and even then missed the first rep. Ran the one I missed on my own at the end.

Running 41:00 intensity: (25:00 @2) + (16:00 @4) 5.2 mi (7:53 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (3)

Fast to track, slow home with Rich. Stomach not feeling good at all.

Monday Oct 26, 2009 #

Running 33:52 [3] 5.0 mi (6:46 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (2)

IW. It sucks being back at work.

Running 34:15 [3] 5.0 mi (6:51 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (2)

HFW. It sucks leaving work in the dark. Also did 4 * 60m strides at the end after dropping my bag off.

Note
(rest day)

Travelled back overnight from Turkey. The woman sat in the seat next to me was so big that she could hardly fit in the seat, and had to get a seatbelt extension.

I think they should completely change the way baggage allowance works for flights. You should get a total amount for you and your bags, with a maximum weight for a single item.

Saturday Oct 24, 2009 #

Strength & conditioning 50:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) + (20:00 @4)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (3)

20 minutes on the hill session on the treadmill, 10 minutes on the bike, and some weights.

Friday Oct 23, 2009 #

Running 43:16 [2] 6.0 mi (7:13 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (3)

Out and back along the coast towards Bodrum. Still had to climb a big hill.

Thursday Oct 22, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Spent the day on a Gulet Boat in the Aegean Sea.

Wednesday Oct 21, 2009 #

Running 31:27 [2] 4.0 mi (7:52 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (3)

Just a short leg stretch. Tired after a long day of doing nothing sat in the sun.

Strength & conditioning 20:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (3)

Short gym session.

Tuesday Oct 20, 2009 #

Running 48:34 [3] 6.2 mi (7:50 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (3)

I had seen some windmills up on the hill as I ran yesterday that I wanted to go and check out. It turned into one of those typical foreign country runs where you have to straight line it across some rough open ground and get chased by dogs.

Strength & conditioning 10:00 [2]

Some weights in the gym afterwards.

Monday Oct 19, 2009 #

Running 41:01 [2] 5.6 mi (7:19 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (3)

Run to the end of the peninsular I could see from the hotel. It's quite hilly as soon as you get away from the coast. Out following the road, and then back along the coast.

Sunday Oct 18, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Travelling out to Turkey.

Saturday Oct 17, 2009 #

Running 35:23 [2] 4.6 mi (7:42 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Sensor (8.5)

Big waters and back. Legs sore from track yesterday, stomach sore from too much food last night.

Friday Oct 16, 2009 #

Running intervals 30:00 [5] 4.3 mi (6:59 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel-DS Racer VII

Track. Drove over to the North Shields Poly track and ran 8 * 800m with 75 seconds recovery. All the times were between 2.37 and 2.39. Tiring on the last two and lost my form a bit. But pleased with the session.

Running warm up/down 16:00 [2] 2.2 mi (7:16 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel-DS Racer VII

Warm up and warm down laps.

Thursday Oct 15, 2009 #

Running 1:01:34 [2] 8.4 mi (7:20 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Sensor (8.5)

Back in Newcastle, and just an easy run from home. Big Waters, Havannah and Three Hills. Wet and muddy, but still enjoyable.

Wednesday Oct 14, 2009 #

Running 1:26:48 intensity: (21:15 @2) + (31:11 @3) + (34:22 @4) 12.1 mi (7:10 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (2)

Flew back early from France and after a quick unpack to wash before packing to go away again tomorrow, went out for a bit of 1 in 4 action.

Feeling tired on the way out along Middlewood Road, but tried to work hard up the hill and was surprised to find I'd managed to get up it quicker than I did last month. Then put in a little bit of effort on the way down, and took some time off that. Still a lot to be gained by really gunning it on the way back.

Note

I had hoped to move quietly into my thirties, but Emma had other ideas. I thought I was going to Casanova's for a meal with Emma, Dave, Kathy & Rich, so I was completely gobsmacked when I arrived to find all the Sheffield crew, Matt & Grace and my Mum & Dad all sat waiting for me. It was amazing, thank you to you all for coming. I really didn't suspect a thing, and Emma is normally rubbish at lying!

Tuesday Oct 13, 2009 #

Running intervals 42:28 intensity: (24:28 @2) + (18:00 @4) 6.0 mi (7:05 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (2)

This was a shock to the system. 6 * 3 minutes with 1 minute jog recovery. Good to get moving at a slightly faster pace. But when I got back for breakfast, all the croissants had been eaten. Disappointing.

Monday Oct 12, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Spent the whole day at Disneyland. Quite an eventful day. The Queen of Hearts tried to kidnap me during the parade, and then we got stuck for 20 minutes in the middle of the Big Thunder Mountain ride.

Sunday Oct 11, 2009 #

Strength & conditioning 45:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (2)

Session in the gym.

Saturday Oct 10, 2009 #

Running 1:08:48 [2] 9.6 mi (7:10 / mi)

Slightly longer today. Over the cobbles to Silly, Faverolles, Dampleux and back to the chateau. Still not 100%, but definitely better than yesterday.

Friday Oct 9, 2009 #

Running 49:12 [2] 7.0 mi (7:02 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130 (2)

Early start (3.30 am!) to fly out to the Chateau in France for a few relaxing days. Managed to get out for a nice run in the afternoon, just a cruise up to Villers-Cotterets and back. Felt rubbish, still had a bit of cold lingering, and was nearly sick when I finished which was a bit weird.

Thursday Oct 8, 2009 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Feeling much better, but again far too busy to go for a run even if I'd wanted to. But at least i've now got two weeks off work to look forward to!

Wednesday Oct 7, 2009 #

Note
(sick)

Still snotty. Over 12 hours at work didn't help.

Tuesday Oct 6, 2009 #

Note
(sick)

Feeling rubbish.

Monday Oct 5, 2009 #

Note
(sick)

Not feeling great.

Sunday Oct 4, 2009 #

Note
(sick)

The sore throat and snot have arrived.

Saturday Oct 3, 2009 #

Orienteering race 15:21 [4] 1.4 mi (10:58 / mi)

Maize Maze qualifier 1. Seemed to get my head around the maze reasonably quickly, and once you realised that the outer ring was only accessible from either the entrance or far end of the maze, it made things simpler. But I did a have a couple of proper standing still head scratching moments trying to find a route. Just scraped the fastest time.

Orienteering 16:19 [4] 1.4 mi (11:39 / mi)

Maize Maze qualifier 2. It was raining while I did this, and it turned the hard packed mud into an ice rink, so it was mega slippy trying to turn round the sharp corners in the maze. Didn't concentrate hard enough on this one, and made a couple of silly mistakes. Only 5th place.

Didn't hang around for the final in the dark, but I can imagine it was pretty tricky.

Warm up and warm down.
