screwed so did bugger all today except went and got TBE injection at lunchtime... the nurse had never done one before so read the instructions out loud to me... reasuring

she also read out the list of possible side effects -pointless -these drug companies basically list everything possible to cover their backs: vomiting, shitting, sneezing, anphalicatic shock, liver failure, being hit by a bus, runny nose, falling down the stairs, numbness, itching, blindness -and the list goes on.....

So I never made it -I was close, really close, but my legs are fkoed. Ran all the way to Don Valley, and when I got there my legs and me felt so shit, i turned around and went home. By the time i got to blake street i was nearly crawling, so glad I wasn't tempted inside. It's probably because thats been my toughest 6 days for months and months and the legs just ain't used to it. Morning off tomo.

Running 50:00 [2] 8.5 km (5:53 / km) +130m 5:28 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14_2008pair 2
Legs poo. From work, upto bents green, down to endcliffe, back through the parks, upto endcliffe cresent (stopped for an hours surveying) then back home via goodwin. Bovis Lendlease -the developers who are building the new student residential campus are shortcutting gypsies. The submitted plans for paths/bin stores/landscaping etc which i have copied as a basemap have basically been ignored and they've just put the odd tree in here and there, and put the paths wherever they feel like. Gonna have to survey the who lot afterall!

Saw Roger Woods (dpfr) running (and we stopped for a nice chat) going in the opposite direction in endcliffe. +2 = 39 points.

Also saw some scally type looking into my car when i got back - It turned out to be Robbo who's lost his keys and was looking into my car for them! Can't claim points for that.

Event: Jukola 2008

Orienteering race (Night) 1:22:00 [5] ***** 13 km (6:18 / km) +450m 5:23 / km
spiked:18/22c shoes: Jalas Black
Jukola 2008. 1st leg. Started in 64th on the grid. I was just behind Dan Marston. Worrying start as he fell over after about 5m, caught another couple of guys either side. I jumped and nearly landed on his face, I started to tumble and managed to catch onto some of the guys on either side. I can't believe how crazy the start is. Anyway hit my no1 (longish leg) in the top 10. Got pulled away from my no 2 (another long leg) by the pack going on a different gaffle. Wanted to go left, but kept with pack. Knew I had been pulled off and steamed over to a brightly lit video control (which was common). Then I knew where I was and it was just a case of following the stream of lights back to my number 2. Sune said I went through the video (for 2nd time) in about 250th!
Then I got in control and just worked through the next few controls and the slower competitors. Then a really long leg. I ran this alone, and pretty much the rest of the course, finishing with a small pack in 44th. Lost around 4mins total -would have been nice to have had the chance to stick with the front pack, but oh well -happy with my run.

Home from work. Ankle tape is a waste of time. After about 10 minuites I was so sweaty the tape just fell off. Took it careful on any rough stuff but tried to push hard on any even ground. Up eccy road to bents green, high storrs, hallam golf club, stables, bolehill and home.

Fell run 40:00 [2] 7.4 km (5:24 / km) +100m 5:04 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14_2008pair 2
Went out to the Trunce. Had no intention of racing and went out and ran the loop backwards until I saw Neill at the front (at the top of the first climb). Then stopped and took photos. Then legged it down to the road just in time to see Little Rob and Neill pass then crossed the stream and took photos. Jogged back slowly from there, then met Little Rob coming the other way (on his warm down) and did a loop with him. Ankle ok just piss weak on the downhills.

Sunday Jun 1

Running tempo 35:00 [4] 8 km (4:22 / km) +130m 4:03 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 14_2008pair 2
Up Parkwood Springs, various paths back to leppings lane and then tempo smashed it back along the tram tracks. Ankle felt weak as a new born kitten especially on downhills much better on the flat tarmac (infact didn't really feel it on the second part of the run.)
