Orienteering race 37:00 [5] **** 7.0 km (5:17 / km)
spiked:19/22c shoes: Jalas Black

British Relays. Set off about 20 secs in front of Oli. Looked back after punching no 1 and Oli was heading straight for it. Then looked back after punching no 2 and Oli was heading straight for it. Then looked back after punching no 3 and guess what -yep he was heading straight for it! Made a hesitation at no 4 and Oli punched just in front of me. Then I started to sing to him -I was being friendly of course -not trying to unsettle him ;-)

Took some completely different routes on other legs but we kept arriving at controls together -I was starting to think we had the same gaffle....

Anyway I was slightly infront with about a km to go and basically ran the wrong side of a knoll. OJ took his chance and went, and then I worked too hard trying to get back on his heels. By the top of the next climb he had opened up a 25m lead. A final tough marshy/heathery leg saw him stretch it out.

Class battle but it was a shame we had the same gaffle throughout. Congrats to ShUOC on a sheffield only podium.

Orienteering race 1:32:00 [5] **** 15.0 km (6:08 / km)
spiked:23/32c shoes: Jalas Black

I was pretty rubbish. This was mainly due to not being able to read the map- it was mapped at 1:10000 but printed at 1:15000 -the contours became a mass of brown and it was a case of getting into the middle of the circle and looking for the kite!! Couple of the controls were basically wrong -again the map was to blame as well as some shoddy controlling. I basically ran the whole thing on my own so was reasonably pleased. I think a bit of pack hunting would have sped me up especially later on. I also cocked up a couple me being rubbish. A course worthy of the british champs -hmm i'm not sure?

Sore Achillies today so I decided not to do too much the evo. Instead I went for a nice walk about Tankersley and did some more surveying.

Orienteering tempo 1:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:00 / km)

Went out to Burbage and tried to start a fire on the moors. Unfortunately my matches that I always carry when I go running were too sweaty, then I tried my lighter that I use for a sly cigarette -unfortunately i'd run out of lighter fluid. Oh well try and start a fire by running another day.

Lovely evening for a run round suprise view and the quarrys of longshaw. Run upto Mother Cap to start and then a steady pace throughout -though put a spurt on when I saw OJ behind (awaiting really funny comment...) Nice planning from OJ who had seamlessly joined the two maps together.

Legs felt abit lathargic today.

Running 15:00 [3] 3.2 km (4:41 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Torana 2007

Made some insoles/inserts to raise the arch and straighten pronation in my ankle. Also took more off the back of my trainers (they're nearly backless now!) seemed to help (hardly felt it on way to work this morning) but as usual i'm not going to get excited.

Running 1:10:00 [4] 13.0 km (5:23 / km) +200m 5:00 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Torana 2007

Run home via bents green, hospital, hallam golf club and back through stables and bolehills.

Stopped in the nice grassy field below bingham wood and did 5 x 150m Osmond's. Thought it was a quite out of the way place to run around backwards -but couple of dog walkers. One dog came over and it was well confused -it couldn't snap at my heels cos they were moving in the wrong direction...

Run into work

Running 25:00 [4] 6.0 km (4:10 / km)

Run home and then to the bus stop to catch it out to tankersley -then a couple of hours surveying. Done most of the shitty bits now- found a lovely bit of white last night -trees 20m apart and bluebells everywhere.
