Run 35:00 [3]

Not as cold as last night, and I was able to get out a bit earlier, so it was only dark for the last 5 or so minutes.

Run 30:00 [3]

Bloody cold when I went out for a run at 6 after work. Not a bad run, but just got too cold out there. I was even starting to get an earache towards the end.

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Orienteering race 58:30 [5] 9.2 km (6:22 / km) +210m 5:42 / km

One of the better spur-gully areas around this part of Victoria, and the overnight rain made it even better, if a bit slippery.

Was running pretty well for most of the course, but some stupid route choice and a few other mistakes probably cost me a good result.

Poor route choice along the track to #1, probably 30 seconds
Ended up on the track going to #2, which probably cost me about 60 seconds.
Lost another 45 seconds at #7 through stopping to early, and looking about 2 contours down, despite comming around the hill at the right height.
Lost another 45-60 seconds at 14, ending up about 250 metres below the control near another set of rocks.

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Getting to the "remote" start.

Orienteering race 46:54 [4] 7.0 km (6:42 / km) +310m 5:29 / km

Pretty uninspired course, the main feature of which was a giant dog-leg. It seemed like the course setter ran out of spurs, gullies and boulders to put controls on, so just put them on things like a mound at the top of a hill.

Ran most of the course pretty well, but was a bit soft on the long leg, and lost about 2 minutes on it. Also lost about 30 seconds on the next leg, through lack of concentration.

Nice area, but a shame there wasn't more done with the interesting bits.

Run 30:00 [3]

Just a short run, as I didn't finish work until nearly six. Thankfully I only have to do 2 hours work tomorrow.

Run 40:00 [3]

Nice run up around Nerrina. Had to slow down a bit on the way back, as I was running along some pretty rough tracks.

Sunday Apr 20, 2008 #

Run 1:27:00 [3] 15.24 km (5:43 / km)

Ran the middle distance MTBO course with Jimbo. Nice day to be out, but even suffered brain fade just running on tracks, and some blackberry route choices slowed us down a bit. Probably should have rode in the race, but thats what I get for not being organised, anyway it was a nice run.

Pulled up a bit better than I thought I would, considering it was the longest run I have done in a while.

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2] 2.0 km (5:00 / km)

Gentle run from home up to the start of the MTBO. I now know why I have only run down the hill on the way to the start.

Riding- Road 1:12:00 [3] 34.29 km (2:06 / km)

Nice ride out to Bininyong on a fantastic afternoon. Rode back into Ballarat with another guy which made the return leg a bit more interesting.

Run 30:00 [3]

Not feeling that energetic after work tonight.

Wednesday Apr 16, 2008 #

Run 50:00 [3]

Fantastic night. Out through Brown Hill, and then up over the freeway through Nerrina. Finished up by visiting the water tanks, which gave me a great downhill run to end it. Pretty dark and cold by the time I was done.

Monday Apr 14, 2008 #

Riding- Road 1:10:00 [2] 31.7 km (2:12 / km)

Easy ride to the top of Bunninyong and back. Very nice out.

At least the ride stopped me spending any more money, after buying a new fridge and a new pair of long-overdue running shoes.

Orienteering race 1:19:00 [4] 11.0 km (7:11 / km)

Don't know what happened today, and I don't think I will ever be able to explain it. I may, however, have proved that black holes do exist on earth (I managed to avoid the singularity).

Orienteering race 40:00 [5] 8.0 km (5:00 / km)

Race 1: (easy) Was a little supprised to be able to chase down most of the field, but even more supprised that Leon and Bryan didn't catch me.

Race 2: (hard) Had one of the kindest hadicaps ever (I still don't know if Neil actually thinks I am slower than Aislinn or not), so was able to take it a bit easy, for this one.

Race 3: (medium) Worst race of the day. Made a few little mistakes, which saw some of the backmarkers sneek past me. Was feeling a bit tired at the end.

Race 4: (hard) Another solid run. Took it a bit slower and made sure I was able to get all of the controls without mistakes. Got taken out by Toph who was nice and warmed up after only running one race before this.

Run warm up/down 20:00 [1]

Collecting controls after the event.

Run 35:00 [3]

Chasing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but i didn't find it.

Wednesday Apr 9, 2008 #

Run 30:00 [3]

Pretty standard run, but still in keeping with my "no training over 35 minutes" rut.

Tuesday Apr 8, 2008 #

Run 35:00 [3]

Nice and warm tonight. Up the creek towards Black Hill, and then back past the new sub-development.

Sunday Apr 6, 2008 #

Run 35:00 [3]

Went out to Mt Alexander for lunch, so ran down the mountain via the old Koala Park and the Oak forest. Very dry out there.

Saturday Apr 5, 2008 #

Orienteering race 42:00 [3] 6.5 km (6:28 / km)

Local event out at Wildflower drive. No tracks, which made it a bit more interesting. Gave Clare a 6 minute head start and caught her down the bottom end of the map, and then twice more on some short legs that I screwed up quite badly.

Felt a bit longer than 6.5km.

Run 30:00 [3]

At least there was no clouds of Mallee dust around today.
