Run 30:00 [3]

A run around Nerrina in pleasent 17 degrees at 6pm. Really couldn't be bothered goin much further than this. I will have to get myself psyched up for the relays next week.

Run 30:00 [3]

Earlier start tonight, so it was still light when I got back. Same loop as last night, and about the same time. This warm weather has to end soon.

Run 30:00 [3]

Left a bit late tonight, but 30 minutes was enough after a messy day at work. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Orienteering race 39:30 [3] 6.5 km (6:05 / km)

Feeling very ordinary out there this morning. Was not running freely at all, and navigation was a problem on some of the legs as well. Lost 45 seconds on the first control, looking for the flag, despite the fact that I was within about 10 metres of it. Lost about 2 minutes on the third.

Orienteering 26:30 [3] 4.5 km (5:53 / km)

Went out and ran the other hard course afterwards. Right hip was getting a bit sore, but it seems to be better now, after almost locking up in the supermarket. Navigation was much better on this one, and the second leg was an absolute cracker. Shame it has so many tracks across it, as this made the potential for screwing it up much less.

Riding-MTB 1:47:00 [3] 33.64 km (3:11 / km)

After a week of nice weather, I thought that the weekend might be shit, but it was a lovely sunny day. Went for a ride around some of the larger tracks off Akera Rd. Came back through Nerrina, and was even warm enough in shorts!

Run 54:00 [3]

Pretty good run, but I was wanting to get it finished so I could go home and listen to the WOC long final.

Run 36:00 [3]

Was good to get out tonight before it got too cold. Went for a little longer than I was expecting, and as a result I was not finished by my 6:30 deadline. On the plus side, it left me with a little more room to fill at Pizza Hut. Suprisingly busy for a Wednesday night.

Run 41:00 [3]

Stopped at Creswick Diggings on the way back to Ballarat. Was a fantastic day, and the first time I have worn shorts for a long time. Pretty easy run along the tracks, and around a bit of the goldmining around Slatey Creek. It was strange to see people camping there on a Monday, and there were a number of people having a BBQ there as well.

Orienteering race (Ironman) 8:00 [5] 1.7 km (4:42 / km)

Nice easy run to start off with, but I cracked up a bit on the hill. Things would only go down from here.

Orienteering race 22:00 [4] 2.0 km (11:00 / km)

The only way I could have stuffed this one up any more was to not finish. It is never good when you run out of a common control in the wrong direction.

Orienteering race 16:00 [5] 2.0 km (8:00 / km)

This one was much better. (I had also found some of the control in the previous race). Was able to navigate for the most part, but over running some controls allowed people starting behind me to get through.

Orienteering race 10:00 [5] 2.0 km (5:00 / km)

No real navigation was required in this one, which suited me fine. Was supprised that I could still run after the other races, and I even managed to catch bryan, which was a bit unexpected.

Run 15:00 [1]

Picking up controls after the Ironman. Was the least I could do after all the effort Neil had put in making the map and putting on a fantastic event. It is a shame there were so few people there.Perhaps a Sunday start next year would attract more people?

Run 30:00 [3]

Run around Nerrina in the dark. I will have to put new batteries in the headlamp, as it was getting pretty dim towards the end. Nice still night with no moon.

Run 48:00 [3]

Not a bad run, but it was getting a bit crisp toward the end. Went out along a track that I hadn't run along for a while, only to find the single track had now been bulldozed into a fire break, and all the gorse had been slashed, and spread along the track. It was an interesting 5 minutes negotiating this section as it was almost dark.

Orienteering race 1:15:30 [3] 8.0 km (9:26 / km)

Started off quite well, running at a good even pace, but lost about 2 minutes on number 6. Seemed to take forever to get to number 7, and nearly killed myself a number of times going to number 8, and that was being careful. Lost at least 5 minutes on number 16 wandering around in something not too disimilar to the twilight zone. Was glad to get to the finish and out of the cold.

Riding-MTB 1:30:00 [3]

There is too much clay in Ballarat, which makes riding as slippery as hell. Managed to stay upright, and it ended up being a nice ride, in the forest and out of the wind. An added highlight was not seeing a single motorbike rider.

Run 40:00 [3]

Best run in the middle of the week that I have had for some time. Drove up to little bendigo school, and went for a run around Nerrina, along the pipe track and up to the water tanks. Ran most of the last section on the roads, but had to turn the head lamp on for last 5 minutes on the single track.

Run 25:00 [3]

Quite short tonight. A bit of pain in my right knee initially, but it got better as the run went on.

Sunday Aug 5, 2007 #

Orienteering race 58:20 [4] 10.1 km (5:47 / km)

Was navigating much better today, but then there was much more detail to help. Struggled with the running in some parts, but ran the last 2.5km pretty well, even though I slowed down a lot in the last 3 controls (at least I marked all of them, and went to all of them).

Saturday Aug 4, 2007 #

Orienteering race 52:00 [3] 8.4 km (6:11 / km)

Very poor run. Navigation was way off on a number of controls, and the long leg was pretty embarrasing. Was very nice out in the bush, but it was interesting to see how thick some parts of the map that used to be clear have got.

Run 30:00 [3]

Run in the dark with the headlamp at Canadian. Thankfully it didn't look to have rained as heavily there as at work in the arvo, otherwise I could have ended up swimming.

Wednesday Aug 1, 2007 #

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Thankfully the rain had stopped when I got out, and there was only a light shower during the run. The wind, however, had not stopped, and made some sections of the run especially crap.
