Run 1:12:30 [3]

Deceided that I hadn't run up enough hills yesterday. Went up Diamond Hill, with the obligatory climb up the the highest point, and then headed around the Res. Lost count of the number of holes in the fences, but discovered that it is actually a longer run around the Res this time, than last time I ran it. Then headed up the road to One Tree Hill, and did a short loop around there, the back along Spring Gully Road to home.

I have deceided that it would not be possible to find a run this good in Ballarat (but maybe it was just because it was nice and sunny in Bendigo today).

Orienteering race 46:39 [4] 6.8 km (6:52 / km)

Felt very sluggish for the first third of the course, but then I deceided I had better HTFU to make sure Jimbo didn't beat me by too much. Ran my own special course, that included an extra control in a parallel gully near 6, but left off the last control (I think this pretty much evens it out!)

Run 40:00 [3]

Up through Nerrina and Little Bendigo after work.

Run 32:00 [3]

Been feeling pretty crap the last 2 days. Felt a little better after getting out for a run, but only marginally.

Orienteering race 1:14:00 [3] 8.3 km (8:55 / km)

Should have stayed in bed. No amount of profanity could even begin to describe how pissed off I was with this run. Probably would not have even gone if I had realised that the courses were the same as last year.

Started off reasonably, but lost 30 seconds on number 2. At least this forced me to start concentrating, and just cruised around steadily, until number 12. I remember finding this control by luck last year, after navigating poorly into the area and hoping. Took it carefully this time, making sure I knew where I was. Got into the circle and could not find the control at all. Spent about 5 minutes wandering around looking, and then thought that maybe I had fucked up after all and was on the wrong spur. Checked out one spur over, just for the sake of it, even though I was convinced I was right. Ended up having to run back up the hill to the ridge, and come down the spur at it again (very hesitantly). Eventually found it, but not after some more stuffing around.

Would probably have run about 55-56 minutes. Don't know how I will cope in a fortnight, given that I have consistently failed to perform on the area since 2003.

Run 40:00 [3]

Felt a bit like going for a ride today, but it was a bit windy, and by the time I got around to it I couldn't be bothered getting the mountain bike out.

Left everything a bit late today after doing a couple of hours of work this morning, but still, it was a nice enough run.

Run 32:00 [3]

Short run after work. Started to get pretty hungry out there.

Run 30:00 [3]

Pretty short run after work. Legs seem to have recovered, but wrist and arm/shoulder still pretty stiff

Orienteering race 2:03:30 [5] 17.2 km (7:11 / km) +550m 6:11 / km

Needed to make up for yesterday. Started off by losing 2 minutes at the first, and got caught by Dave Myer. Got ahead again when he missed the second, and didn't see him again. Lost another couple of minutes on the second long leg through a poor route choice. Dropped more time again through route choice on number 13, and messed up 15 pretty badly. Alright for the rest, but the legs were starting to get pretty tight. Not helped by smashing up my knee and wrist after tripping over a shin-height fence on the way to 19.

Should have been able to finish about 5 places up the board today. Not running past the first control would have been a good start.

Orienteering race 19:57 [4] 3.2 km (6:14 / km)

Day didn't start off too well. Got to the event 3 minutes before my start time, after my flight was delayed by 40 minutes due to an electrical fault with one of the instruments.

Not the most technical of areas, but still managed to make plenty of errors. Got into the groove a bit in the middle of the course through the forest, and thought I may have been able to finish it of pretty well, but still made some pretty stupid mistakes.

Orienteering race 55:36 [4] 6.17 km (9:01 / km) +155m 8:00 / km

Drifted around a bit on the way to number 2 and 3, then got 4 and 5 quite well. Took a longish detour off the map on the way to number 6, and then couldn't really be stuffed with the rest of the course. Missed the boulder at number 7, and had a number of issues with number 9.

Pretty crap day out.

Run 32:00 [3]

Very nice run this evening. Was pretty bloody dark though.

Run 30:00 [3]

Not feeling very energetic tonight. Legs seemed to still be a bit tight from Sunday, which probably is not a good thing for the weekend.

Sunday May 10, 2009 #

Orienteering race 1:03:49 [4] 11.8 km (5:24 / km) +190m 5:00 / km

Struggled a little bit more today than I was expecting. Lost a little bit of time at number 1, being much too far up the spur, and ran to the top of the wrong hill on control ?13.

Found it difficult to run at an even pace, with lots of stopping and starting. Intrest was really starting to wain towards the end of the course, as I was struggling to keep up with Jim and Toph (who had made a bit of a comeback after I caught him early on).

Run 32:00 [3]

Pretty short run in the afternoon

Friday May 8, 2009 #

Riding- Road 1:14:09 [3] 34.45 km (2:09 / km)

Out to Mt Buningyong and back through Mt Clear. Pretty cold on the way out, and the fog rolled in over the mountain which was pretty strange to ride up through. Got a bit wet on the way home, but still it was much better to be out on the bike than at work.

Run 44:00 [3]

Very nice run tonight. Went a little further up the creek tonight before cutting back through Nerrina. Wasn't as cold as I was expecting. Hopefully I am fully over my cold now (it has only taken about 3 weeks) and will be ready for the weekend.

Run 40:00 [3]

Very nice evening for a run.

Sunday May 3, 2009 #

Run 50:00 [3]

Pretty nice run considering that I seemed to be running in concentric circles. Quite a few people up the top of Black Hill this afternoon. Ran through a bit of the pine forrest up there that I haven't been to for ages. Nice and easy on the legs.

Will be nice to be able to run where I want next week without having to be tied to the phone.

Riding- Road 1:01:20 [3] 27.8 km (2:12 / km)

Very nice ride in the afternoon. Managed to finish work at 12:30 today, so spent the rest of the day out enjoying the day and waiting for the phone to ring (it didn't though, which was nice for a change).
