Run 1:01:30 [3]

Went out and ran the MTBO score event in the evening. Left it nice and late to make sure I was able to get some time running in the dark. Almost came unstuck a few times in the masses of tracks, but that will teach me for trying to cut corners.

Got all of the controls easily within the 75 minute time limit. Would be interesting to see how much quicker I would have gone on a bike.

Riding- Road 1:04:50 [3] 32.14 km (2:01 / km)

Quick ride around the Juve in the morning before heading back to Ballarat. Don't think I have ever seen this many people out on the Juve, but they were all going in the opposite direction.

Struggled for the first 40 minutes, but seemed to find something towards the end. Was nice to finish feeling strong for a change.

Riding- Road 1:52:00 [3] 52.3 km (2:08 / km)

Mt Alexander challenge with Jim and Toph. Battled the head wind on the way out. Wasn't sure what was going to happen on the climb, especially after Jim punctured, which just left me and Toph to do the mountain. Suprised after Toph let me get a small gap on the small climb, and kept expecting him to come past. Held him off for quite a while, but cracked about 500m from the top, after thinking that the summit was only just after Dog Rock Saddle.

Struggled with the blistering pace back into Toph's as Jim had met us on the descent and drove the train home.

Riding- Road 50:12 [2] 21.17 km (2:22 / km)

Mid-morning ride with Clare out along Diamond Hill road. Did an extra loop up around One Tree Hill at the end. Very easy pace.

Run 30:00 [1]

Very easy evening run with Andrew, Meg and Clare, in an attempt to burn off some of the excess turkey.

Run 30:00 [3]

Just to see if I could remember how to run...

Tuesday Dec 22, 2009 #

Riding- Road 1:02:00 [3] 30.29 km (2:03 / km)

White Swan loop. Fantastic evening to be out on the bike. Felt reasonably good, given how much of a struggle Sunday was. Still get the distinct feeling that I could well crack like a porcelain doll within 500m of a decent climb though...

Riding- Road 51:00 [3] 23.5 km (2:10 / km)

In an absolute world of hurt this morning. Have had a cold all week, and have only just started to improve today. Went out past Mt Warrenheip to try and get a nice run back into town with the wind. Worked to some extent, but struggled to get enough air into the lungs today.

Tuesday Dec 15, 2009 #

Riding- Road 55:00 [3] 25.58 km (2:09 / km)

Didn't really feel like it tonight, but given the next couple of nights work/social commitments, I don't think I will have much time for the rest of the week.

Ended up being glad I went out. Very nice night for it.

Sunday Dec 13, 2009 #

Riding- Road 1:20:11 [3] 37.93 km (2:07 / km)

Felt pretty sluggish today, and was feeling wrecked by the time I got out to Mt Helen. Struggled on up Mt Buningyong, and really had to force myself to go right to the top. Another cool day with a bit of drizzle and wind about.

Will have to do better than this if I am going to teach the Bendigo people a thing or two on Mt Alexander (no plum trees on Mt Buningyong if you crack...)

Run 43:00 [3]

Up to Gong Gong Res. Discovered 2 new things on this loop. Rabbits are no-longer nocternal, nor are they affraid of humans. I blame global warming. Secondly, the local water authority deceided it would be a good idea to errect a 8ft high cyclone fence around 40% of their nature walk, but the first time you see the fence is at the congratulations, you have finished the walk, we hope you found it interesting sign.

Made the mistake today of going down the street after 9am. Was not an enjoyable morning shopping.

Friday Dec 11, 2009 #

Riding- Road 54:11 [3] 25.6 km (2:07 / km)

Same loop as yesterday. A little bit more assistance from the wind on the flats today, but most of the ride was still pretty nasty.

3 days of "training" in a row. Will have to ensure I now have a week off to properly recover...

Wednesday Dec 9, 2009 #

Riding- Road 55:00 [3] 25.58 km (2:09 / km)

Short White Swan loop. Remembered how much I hate the wind.

Tuesday Dec 8, 2009 #

Run 40:00 [3]

Was going to get out on the bike today, but as it was raining, went for a run instead. Was a bit of a struggle.

Orienteering race 1:37:00 [3]

Bendigo Evening 3hr Score

Had heard a rumour it was possible to get all of the controls in 75 mins, but that turned out to be a little bit optomistic. Started an hour later at 8pm to ensure that I got some time out there in the dark. Few little wobbles out there, and made a real mess of one of the controls on the way back in the dark.

Shame Jymbo's light died, as he seemed to be running pretty well.

Note

Overland Track Day 8

Short, flat walk out along the lake. Track was a bit more undulating than expected, as it was cut in a fair way from the lake shore. Finished by 1030, but a nice way to end the walk.

Note

Overland Track day 7

Easy walk from Pine Valley to Echo Point. Lovely camping spot on the beach next to the lake. Treated to a view of mist floating down a still lake as the sun rose over the Traveller Range in the morning.
