Riding- Road 1:07:09 [3] 32.6 km (2:04 / km)

Felt very hot in Ballarat today. Left the ride late until after dinner, and it was a very nice time to be out. Quite a few parties already happening in Wendouree at 8pm, and the police were already out. Nice lap of the lake/paddock, but there was hardly anyone out taking advantage of the cooler temps.

Run 30:00 [3]

Was looking foward to going for a ride after work, but time limited me to a pretty piss-weak run instead.

Riding-MTB warm up/down 18:00 [1] 6.4 km (2:49 / km)

Too and from the Duo

Run race 30:00 [4]

Didn't take splits, so the times are a big guess.

First leg of the Silva Duo. Started off pretty well, but some silly route choice cost me a bit of time. Felt reasonably strong while running. Had a bit of an advantage around Black Hill, having run there quite a lot in the last 3 years.

Riding-MTB race 50:00 [4]

Duo MTB leg. Started off OK, but pretty sluggish up the hills. Got caught by Jimbo just after the first control, and stuck with him for most of the leg. Again, a home ground advantage helped, but I forgot about a heavily rutted and rough track until I was just about to go down it at full pelt. Few hairy moments out there but managed to stay upright the whole time. Cracked very badly on the last hill.

Run race 35:00 [3]

Final leg. Was dead by the time I got off the bike, and had to try and close down about a 30 second gap to Jimbo. Did not go well, and started to cramp on the way to the second control. Ended up walking a lot of the last leg, expecting a big group to blow past me. Got one of the worst cramps I have had in years when I attempted to climb though a fence on the way to the last control.

Left myself feeling pretty crook the rest of the day. Was hoping it would be nice and quite at home, but the annual meeting of the Commodore and Torana Association across the road had other ideas.

Riding- Road 56:40 [3] 27.14 km (2:05 / km)

Shorter White Swan loop with as many hills as I could find, but without the horrible headwind all the way back through Wendouree.

Run 45:00 [3]

Lovely afternoon for a run. Shame I wasn't out there longer.

Riding- Road 37:00 [3]

Very sluggish run this arvo. Starting to think I will never be able to do any worthwhile training again...

Riding- Road 46:00 [3] 21.4 km (2:09 / km)

Crash course training for the SilvaDuo. Don't think it worked though, feeling very sluggish out there, even though it was a pretty nice evening for a ride.

Run 1:15:00 [3]

Was a bit of an effort getting going after yesterday. Headed out to the Wishing Well, and then up to the Summit. Pretty spectacular running up through the mist, with the clouds rolling up through the valleys. Was expecting the track to go straight up, but it took a pretty round-about route. Headed out towards Ruined Castle, and picked up the road to Mt McKay. Bit of a slog up the mountain, but had to push on to beat the big black cloud to the top. Made it just, then had an easy run back down to falls.

Run 23:00 [3]

Easy run along to the Wishing Well. First half was nice, but started to suffer a bit when dinner started to make itself known. The 6 and a half hour walk earlier in the day probably didn't help either.

Conned Clare into climbing Bogong in the morning. Being a walk with Clare, ended up leaving about an hour later than I was originally intending. Very slow pace up Staircase Spur, and it was a bit of a slog up to Bivouac Hut, but was really good walking up above the tree-line. I am struggling to think of another walk in Victoria that ascends over 1200m in a little over 6km. Will have to do a few overnight hikes around Falls/Bogong in the future. Absolutely stunning country.

Run 54:11 [3]

Run out to Ropers Lookout with Clare. Pretty easy pace, but pushed on a bit up to the summit. A fantastic introduction to running around Falls. Sunny day, cool and amazing views.

Riding-MTB 51:00 [3] 17.19 km (2:58 / km)

Went out a bit later than I would have liked. Managed to get home just a bit too early, so the people walking around trying to get people switch electricity suppliers saw me drive in and cornered me.

Run 36:00 [3]

Felt pretty poor tonight, but I was good to get out for a run when it was reasonably cool, although it was pretty humid.

Sunday Jan 10, 2010 #

Run 20:00 [3]

Only went for a run because watching people cycle in this weather made me feel weak. Temp dropped quite a bit, so went out in the late evening. Will have to do some reasonable training next week to make up for my lack of it this week. Only worked 6.25 hours this weekend, so I can't even use that as an excuse.

Run 25:00 [3]

Really piss-poor effort tonight. Ended up running around the streets very close to home.

Sunday Jan 3, 2010 #

Riding-MTB 58:00 [3] 22.17 km (2:37 / km)

Felt pretty crap today, but thought I should at least make an effort this afternoon. Good to get out, but it was a token effort none the less. Really need to HTFU and do some consistent training.

Run 52:00 [3]

This is the run that should have happened yesterday. Almost felt like winter with drizzle and a cold wind, but was pretty sheltered out in the forest. Nice loop up to Nuggety dam.

Run 35:00 [3]

Had high hopes for the first run of the year, but didn't go quite as well as I had hoped. In the end I pretty much just gave up. On the plus side, things can only get better from here.
