Run 42:00 [3]

Afternoon run at Powlett river. Very limited places to run, with the exception of along the beach. Tide was rising, so I had to run along a snake infested swamp/track to get to the beach on the other side of the river. Almost managed to make it to the top of the big sand dune, and then ran up the beach towards Kilcunda and back.

No training on Sunday due to adverse weather conditions. Could only do one trip up the sand dune on Sunday, as any more would have left me with burnt feet.

Riding- Road 52:00 [3] 23.82 km (2:11 / km)

Felt pretty flat tonight. The strong wind didn't help either.

Run 1:04:00 [3]

Reasonably busy morning at work. Went out to St Georges in the afternoon for a run, and to sample some of the local bogan culture. More bogan culture at Cosgrove Res, where I struggled to get across the spillway, as it was actually performing the function it was designed to. Very pleasent afternoon to be out running.

Run intervals 20:00 [4]

Suspect there will be hoards of people around the lake tomorrow, so did fartlek session today instead. Bit of a struggle, but got through it reasonably well, although I certainly wasn't moving very fast.

Run warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Riding- Road 1:31:53 [3] 44.59 km (2:04 / km)

Was a little like exercising in a sauna this morning. Glad I did the long run yesterday. Headed out to Buningyong, via Gear Ave which was a bit of a struggle early on, but got up Mt Buningyong without too much trouble.

Run 1:22:20 [3]

Significantly better than most of my "long" runs of late. Struggled for about 15 minutes after about 20 minutes of running, but got into a good rhythm after that. Headed out to Black Hill, then up the the water tanks, and home through Nerrina. Ran down the creek for the first time since the floods, after jumping the track closed signs. Lots of trees down, and silt up at least 4-5 meters above track level in some places.

Seems the Duo organisers have been busy putting out tapes for the Australia Day event. Must have come across about 7 control sites on this run. Hopefully they have still included a few creek crossings, as the water should still be flowing strongly come Wednesday. Unfortunately will have to spend the day at work instead.

Riding- Road 1:00:20 [3] 27.63 km (2:11 / km)

Lovely evening for a ride, but didn't pick the best course. Headed out to Warrenheip, but didn't make it all the way to the top as there were about 20 trees over the road in various places. Made for a very slow ascent, and an extreemly cautious descent.

Legs a little sluggish early on, but picked up nicely for the last 15 minutes.

Run intervals 20:00 [4]

Much nicer conditions this week. Seems like most of Ballarat was walking around the lake this evening.

Run 24:00 [2]

Longish warm down, after running into a few people from the hospital also jogging around the lake.

Run 39:00 [3]

Feeling pretty shit today. Perhaps it was all of the pressure associated with saving patients from medication misadventure brought on by the new batch of interns.

Run 1:09:30 [3]

Drastically underestemated the conditions today. 88% humidity when I started, and didn't drop that much in the hour or so I was out. Headed up the creek to Gong Gong, and with the amount of water flowing down the creek, I expected the water to be over the spillway, but it is still many meters away from being full. Slogged up the hill to the water channel up the hill, and was pleased to see it had a lot of water in it. Really suffered on the run home, and was very pleased to finish, although I did have a bit of trouble getting up the driveway.

Very jealous of the Bendigo boys with the Crusoe swimming platform

Saturday Jan 15, 2011 #

Riding- Road 1:06:15 [3] 32.89 km (2:01 / km)

Out around White Swan, then around the overflowing Lake Wendouree. Not feeling that energetic, but was able to maintain a reasonable average speed.

Thursday Jan 13, 2011 #

Run 41:00 [3]

Some detours required as the creek had broken its banks in some places. Not too bad running in the rain tonight, at least it didn't feel humid.

Wednesday Jan 12, 2011 #

Run warm up/down 16:00 [2]

Run intervals 20:00 [4]

First Mona fartlek session in a very long time around the lake. Suffered a lot from about 15 minutes onwards, but was pleased I actually got out and did a half decent session. Very humid out.

Run 43:00 [3]

Deceided mid-afternoon that nothing was going to stop me running tonight. Wasn't as wet as I was expecting, just light rain the whole way.

Sunday Jan 9, 2011 #

Run 38:00 [3]

Run up the creek after spending the day watching the cycling. I don't think the legs coped to well with all of the standing. Caught up to a small group running through some of the single track, and ran with them for about 10 minutes until they headed back to their car. Legs loosened up a little to the end.

Saturday Jan 8, 2011 #

Run 55:00 [3]

Left it nice and late in the afternoon, when the temperature dropped below 20. Quite pleasent out, but a little humid, especially after a light shower. Headed down along the creek, the up to the water tanks, and home through Nerrina.

Wednesday Jan 5, 2011 #

Riding- Road 3:03:52 [3] 87.93 km (2:05 / km)

First day off in a while, so headed out for a longish ride, after not doing any exercise yesterday. Nice stiff southerly, and ended up with some nasty head and crosswinds.

Headed out to Spargo's Creek. Came across some roadworks, but thankfully they had just put the roller over it, so it was nice and smooth. Nice ride through Wombat State Park, and saw a deer, which was something a little different. Battled the headwind from Spargo's to Ballan, and then headed back to Ballarat through Mt Egerton. Many more hills comming back than expected, including a very steep climb out of Moorabool River.

Legs starting to get very tired towards the end, and was glad the last 10km were with a good tailwind.

Monday Jan 3, 2011 #

Run 37:00 [3]

Pretty boring run around Nerrina behind the school. Getting sick of exercising with a phone attached to me.

Sunday Jan 2, 2011 #

Riding- Road 1:14:00 [3] 31.94 km (2:19 / km)

Went for a ride after not doing much yesterday. Managed to stay within 6km of home, which I thought was quite an acheivement. Out towards Gong Gong to start with, then explored some of the roads Springs Rd. Founds some spectacular houses, and possible the worst place to live in the event of Nerrina going up in smoke. The only person who would be guaranteed to get out is the guy with the helicopter parked behind his house.

Finished of with a climb up Longs Hill Rd, and then White Swan. Really nice out this arvo, but the wind was a bit of a pain in the arse.
