5.55am: 34 degF. In Washington DC for AIA Grassroots Conference. Needed some exercise so morning run on the Mall out to Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial etc. Stopped to take a number of photos on the way. Nice morning light and sunrise. Took some time in Lincoln Memorial to reacquaint myself with the ‘Gettysburg Address’ and acquaint myself with his 2nd Presidential inaugural address which is also a masterpiece. Maya Lin’s Vietnam Memorial never ceases to amaze me in it sheer simplicity and ability to provide the right sense of remembrance. It was nice to be able to spent time there alone at that time in the morning and have the sunrise while I was there.
