Monday Feb 25

Note
(sick)
Bugger. Got a sore throat on Sunday, was hoping that I was just a little run down. This had turned into proper old school flu by the end of Monday night (cough, shivers, headache etc). Lots of possible carriers out there so not sure who to blame.

At least I got ill after the nationals; will just have to be really careful and sensible when returning back (which is not likely for quite a few days!). As I said; bugger.

Sunday Feb 24

Orienteering race 55:00 [4]9.5 km (5:47 / km)
Brimham rocks badge event. Wanted to take it steady and enjoy myself. Really enjoyed it (although felt knackered), but kept switching off on long legs. It was a good reminder of some of the things that I need to work in the next few weeks.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [1]2.0 mi (4:59 / mi)

Saturday Feb 23

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2]3.0 mi (8:20 / mi)
Steady warm up and down. Spent a lot of the W/U cheering on the girls and sizing up the gradient of the steep climb. The conclusions were that the girls did really well and that the hill was steep but not 60% steep.
Running race 35:00 [5]11 km (3:11 / km) vdot: 68.3
National cross country. Felt pretty nervous / excited on the morning of the race - knew I was in good shape and wanted to improve on my position of last year (87th) but that the competition would be tougher as the venue was so central.I know you shouldn't set goals that you have no controls over, but I couldn't get away from the fact that I wanted my result to improve!

Really pleased with my overall result - 69th - but my race was by no means perfect.

I started really strongly and was up in 46 - 48 th about half way round. I then proceeded to die a horrible death and just tried to hang on for last 15 minutes. Not pleasant, but effective on this occasion!

Results here: http://englishcrosscountry.co.uk/images/pdf/Senior...

(I was not entered for some reason so had to run D Newbold)

Friday Feb 22

Running 15:00 [1]
Easy running to gym and back where I did some stretching.

Thursday Feb 21

Running 35:00 [3]5.0 mi (7:00 / mi)
Warm up / down.
Running 8 [4]
4 x 2:00 efforts up and down the parks.

Wednesday Feb 20

Running 55:00 [3]7.0 mi (7:51 / mi)
Steady run up the parks. Legs felt a bit dead from yesterday.

Tuesday Feb 19

Running 55:00 [3]7.2 mi (7:38 / mi)
Run to track from work, then home again.
Running intervals 30:00 [5]5 km (6:00 / km)
Short reps tonight - and found them tough 8x500 off equal recovery. Was pushed by Scott and Armand all the way - really don't have their kind of raw speed.

Monday Feb 18

Running 20:00 [2]2.5 mi (7:59 / mi)
Run home from gym; did 5 x hill sprints for good measure.
S+C (Pilates) 55:00 [3]

Sunday Feb 17

Orienteering 50:00 [1]4.5 mi (11:06 / mi)
Checking control sites for the Burbage night and district / colour coded on 8/9 March 2008 (http://www.southyorkshireorienteers.org.uk/). Had fun - don't often get a chance to run with Clare.

Out for 1.20 but spent some of it standing around discussing control points.
Running 50:00 [2]7.2 mi (6:56 / mi)
Steady running around the Chatsworth Chase race course. Still feel that I am fighting off a bug or something so wanted to be sensible (wonders never cease) before the national next week.

Absolutely cracking day and it was great to be able to stare at the views for a change!

Saturday Feb 16

Running 1:35:00 [3]11.0 mi (8:38 / mi)
Run in the peaks with a Al, Mike, OJ and Ant. Ant was up for the weekend with his family and it was great to be able to show off the peaks to its full extent (the weather is like this all the time really).

Friday Feb 15

Note
Didn't feel too hot after last nights session so decided to take a day off.

Thursday Feb 14

Running warm up/down 45:00 [2]6.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
Running 25:00 [5]3.5 mi (7:08 / mi)
Trickets hills. Again nearly did the session (like Tuesday) because feeling that trying to fend something off. Did the session but tried to not kill myself - feel like I got something out of it.

Wednesday Feb 13

Orienteering 1:25:00 [3]12 km (7:05 / km)
Run with OJ and Mike around Burbage. Felt really happy with the first 2 mini control picks but concentration was waning by the third. Good to get out in such great weather.

Tuesday Feb 12

Running 18:00 [1]2.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
Run to work - hill felt tough this morning.
Running 54:00 [3]7.2 mi (7:30 / mi)
Run to track and then home again.
Running (Intervals) 29:00 [5]5.0 mi (5:47 / mi)
Toughie track session 5 x 1 mile with 1 minute recovery. I got the blame for the increase in effort, but the idea was that they did session last week whilst we were away.

Felt rubbish before the session (and nearly didn't turn up) but felt good when I got going. Did the sets in 5.00, 4.58, 4.58, 4.57, 4.52.

Monday Feb 11

Cycling 2:15:00 [2]
Steady cycle out with Gareth. Good fun - was absolutely gorgeous and views were awesome. Managed to stay a bit closer to Candyman on the downhill and in return he stuck to me on all the climbs.

Sunday Feb 10

Running 40:00 [2]5.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
Steady run out with OJ - nice and gentle.

Note
Cool birthday meal out which Clare had organised - really nice to see everyone and had a fab time.

Saturday Feb 9

Running 38:00 [2]5.72 mi (6:39 / mi)
Run back from the orienteering session with Mike and OJ - our topics for conversation were definitely getting more limited and nothing could hide the fact the fact that it was a dull and hot run back.
Orienteering 28:00 [4]3.5 mi (7:59 / mi)
Tried to run the session hard - felt that it was slowly coming together.
Orienteering 56:00 [3]6.5 mi (8:36 / mi)
Run with OJ and Neil (who limped out after smashing his toe - sacre bleu). Train was a bit dull and prickly and pleased to have got it finished.

Friday Feb 8

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3]7.5 mi (10:40 / mi)
Run in some nice sand dunes. Forest was part gorgeous, open and clear underfoot and part prickly under foot. Managed to put a tree through my shoe and basically destroyed my trainers.

Running 30:00 [2]4.5 mi (6:40 / mi)
Run to and from the training area - road flat and boring.

Thursday Feb 7

Orienteering 2:25:00 [3]15.0 mi (9:39 / mi)
Loooong run in the early morning heat - orienteering got better as went along. Fantastic terrain - fast underfoot, but always needed to stay in contact with the map.
Orienteering 50:00 [4]5.4 mi (9:15 / mi)
Sprint o around Albufeira - great fun running around "little england" on a dodgy map. Extra points to Shane for his parcour techniques.

Wednesday Feb 6

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]7.5 mi (11:59 / mi)
Clare had choice of areas and chose some sand dunes in Spain to have her last day on. It was a good choice - but it would have been good to have had the spiky plants removed.

Did 2 courses back to back and they went ok - never really got into the map
Orienteering 20:00 [4]1.5 mi (13:19 / mi)
Forest sprint - lots of fun. Lost it in a couple of places but really enjoyed nailing the controls that I got bang on.

Tuesday Feb 5

Orienteering race 48:00 [4]4.0 mi (11:59 / mi)
POM day 4. Ran steadily around the course - with a couple of minor blips. It was really low visibility in places. Cold was on its way out.

Frankly pissed off to have been beaten by Mike a couple of seconds - 4:1 to him so far this season. If only I had had the "lucky" last SI box it might all have been a different story.
Running warm up/down 20:00 [1]2.5 mi (7:59 / mi)

Monday Feb 4

Orienteering 1:12:00 [4]9.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
POM 3 better day only a few minor misses - really enjoyed the course.
Running 20:00 [1]2.5 mi (7:59 / mi)
Warm up and down.

Sunday Feb 3

Orienteering 1:20:00 [4]8.5 mi (9:24 / mi)
WRE - never really got going. Lots of misses at the beginning but got better as it moved on.
Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]2.5 mi (7:59 / mi)

Saturday Feb 2

Running warm up/down 25:00 [1]3.0 mi (8:20 / mi)
Orienteering 40:00 [4]
Day 1 - really enjoyed the course, but blew too much time early on.

Friday Feb 1

Orienteering 45:00 [3]3.5 mi (12:50 / mi)
Nice and easy cruise round the model map - bushy but fun.
