Monday Jun 30

Running 20:00 [1]2.5 mi (7:59 / mi)
Slow dawdle home - calves sore, but other than that seemed to be holding together ok.

Sunday Jun 29

Running race 1:12:14 [5]13.1 mi (5:31 / mi) vdot: 65.6
Humber Half Marathon. This was a hilly half and certainly tough. I was feeling tired and a bit run down and nearly didn't start; glad that I did, as I got a pb and enjoyed a fun race (in retrospect!). Started a bit too hard (first mile in 4.57 and 10k in 33.03) - the pace was being pushed by 3 Kenyans who had turned up for the race.

Would really like to have a good crack at a 1/2 (help I am turning into a road runner) on a decent course.

The race was won by Darren Bilton from Leeds in about 68 minutes - he was on fire.

Clare managed to beat her pb by 10 minutes! Got to hang out with my parents as well so all in all a good day.
C • Almost sub 2:30 Marathon! 1
Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]2.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
C • Daz Ultra 1

Saturday Jun 28

Running 1:20:00 [3]9.5 mi (8:25 / mi)
Run up Rivelin Valley. Met Tom Beautyman about 20 minutes into the run and we stuck together for the rest of the run. Found out he lives in Stannington and encouraged him to start coming to track again and to run some of the XC races. He was a bit scared of how fast Sprotty running at the moment....

Friday Jun 27

Running 39:00 5.0 mi (7:48 / mi)
Run to work in the morning (left glute sore). Short run home with 1 mile done a bit more speedily.

Thursday Jun 26

Running 1:00:00 8.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
Run to work.
Run at lunch on the "hilly" route up Porter Valley. Felt relatively sprightly.

Note
Clare's birthday. Being a fab boyfriend I had planned a surprise trip out for the night. Had to rethink my plans as we missed the train that we were supposed to get and the next one was 1 hour later. Decided to do a roving meal - 3 courses in 3 different restaurants which was fun. Main course at the place that used to be the pasta bar (up from Pizza Express) was decidedly dodgy - Clare's meal was just spaghetti with tinned tomatoes. The waiter was wearing sunglasses on the top of his head.

Wednesday Jun 25

Running 1:30:00 [3]11.0 mi (8:10 / mi)
Run to LowBradfield and back again and then warming up with Dave Sprot (and nearly missed the start - woops).
Running race 18:13 [5]3.52 mi (5:10 / mi) vdot: 64.8
ahr:161
Damflask relays. Around the reservoir and then up (and down) a chuffing big hill. Felt strong but legs did not feel over speedy. Pleased with time (2nd fastest on the day) and about 45 seconds on 2 years ago. Good to have such a good group of HHs out.

Tuesday Jun 24

Running 33:00 5.0 mi (6:35 / mi)
Run home from work. Left too late to make it to track so tried to inject a bit of tempo into the run.

Monday Jun 23

Running 1:00:00 [3]8.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
Run to work in the morning. Run home up the parks and then over to Nail's house to try and find my house keys (found out on Thursday this week that I had left them at work).

Sunday Jun 22

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
Warm down run to collect some controls. Difficult carrying 6 stakes, controls and SI boxes.
Orienteering race 38:22 [4]5.6 mi (6:50 / mi)
ahr:152
SYO BBQ sprint race champs. Set off 2nd with Mike 1 minute behind me. He caught me about 2/3 way round when I executed 2 controls muppitishly.

Slowly reeled him in for the last 1/3. Did not enjoy the last 1k uphill.
Note
Planned on going for an easy run but got too caught up in work. Then flew to Finland. Excited about the Jukola.

Saturday Jun 21

Running 1:50:00 [3]1400.0 mi (4 / mi)
Long run in the peaks with Nails. Forgot how much fun it was to run in the rain with a massive hangover. Spent the afternoon in front of the telly watching the athletics and dozing.

Thursday Jun 19

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
Warm up / down.

Running race 33:00 [5]5.0 mi (6:35 / mi) vdot: 49.8
Grindleford fell race. Started off steady and realised that I need to speed up when Jenny was still ahead of me after the first couple of minutes around the field. Moved up to 3rd at the top of the hill - and that is where I stayed. Glad to have stayed ahead of Bond (although I didn't realise that it was him).

Wednesday Jun 18

Running 50:00 [3]8.0 mi (6:14 / mi)
Steady run at lunchtime.

Tuesday Jun 17

Running 1:10:00 [3]7.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
Run to track and back.
Running 30:00 [3]3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
Back to track. Arrived late and so joined in half way through the men's set of 600, 500, 400 with 35 seconds. Took it steady(ish) but and Ian persuaded me to finish the set off after the others had finished.

Saturday Jun 14

Orienteering 50:00 [3]5.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
Run with the VSOK crew around another model map. Feeling excited and nervous about first leg.
C • eh???? 1
Orienteering race 1:20:00 [4]7.0 mi (11:25 / mi)
1st leg of Jukola for VSOK 2nd team. Mad start (as ever). Really wanted to run cleanly after last year's disaster. Kept it steady and in control with a couple of wobbles - 3 minutes in total. Was expecting a good finish outcome and was disappointed to finish low down (148th). Really good fun though.

Good beer and sauna afterwards.

Friday Jun 13

Orienteering 1:15:00 [3]6.0 mi (12:29 / mi)
Running on a warm up map for the Jukola with OJ and Nails. Fun to be in Scandi again.

Wednesday Jun 11

Cycling (Tour de Mike) 1:20:00 [3]
Bike ride with with Mike; basically back out to Strines and back. Pace was a bit too hot for Mike so he made some excuse about a tyre going flat.

Got some good speed up on the way back down to Rivelin.

Tuesday Jun 10

Running 18:00 [1]2.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
Run to work - nice and easy. Was going to run home, but was not really motivated for it, so didn't bother.

Monday Jun 9

Running 50:00 [1]4.5 mi (11:06 / mi)
Training at Middleditch pace today. Legs stiff and tired. Jogged down to see Kim and spotted OJ in his car (2 points).

Sunday Jun 8

Orienteering 1:50:00 [5]8.0 mi (13:45 / mi)
Selection race classic. Wanted to run hard from the start, but catching Nick at 1 and Murray at 2 was not down to my supersonic speed, but the confusing area at the start.

Confused by the whole gate rule - going to go back to not reading details. Made mistakes at 8 - didn't slow down enough and was a complete muppet on the way to 12. Rest of race a bit of blur, got really bad cramp at 18.

Disappointed with race (again), but at least I toughed it out...

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1]1.5 mi (13:19 / mi)
Long warm up. No warm down - too busy puking up chocolate milk.

Saturday Jun 7

Orienteering race 15:00 [5]2.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
I can also throw my hat into the "if only I hadn't f*cked up" ring. Was 12 seconds in the lead at 8 and then spunked this away over the next few controls - muppet!

Closest I have been to being in the mix - at a selection race which was pleasing but could have been so much better!
Orienteering race 40:00 [5]3.5 mi (11:25 / mi)
Selection Middle race. Graham Ackland summed it up as "scaletrix orienteering", working our way through the bracken. Totally screwed up number 2, at which point Jamie caught me up. Beasted it around with him for a bit - mainly in his wake - and then it all fell apart again in the last 3rd. Memorable course - and certainly tough. I was in summary "rubbish".
Running warm up/down 40:00 [3]4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
Lots of warming up and down over the day.

Friday Jun 6

Running 40:00 [3]5.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
Pre-breakfast run. Felt lethargic at the start, but sprightly by the end.

Thursday Jun 5

Note
Too busy at work to squeeze in a planned lunchtime run - so changed it to a day off.

Wednesday Jun 4

Running 50:00 [3]7.0 mi (7:08 / mi)
Steady lunchtime run around Porter Valley.

Tuesday Jun 3

Running 35:00 5.0 mi (7:00 / mi)
Run home, via some spirals which I tried to push hard and invigorate my legs.

Monday Jun 2

S+C (Pilates) 50:00 [1]
Pilates session. Had not been for ages and knew that it was going to hurt. Class was choca but because I was early (I was surprised too) managed to get a good spot.
Running 40:00 [2]6.0 mi (6:40 / mi)
Easy run home.

Sunday Jun 1

Cycling (Tour de Shep) 1:55:00 [3]
Steady "Tour de Shep" ride with Candyman. Unfortunately, Gareth's seat post became loose and slipped down which meant he had half of the ride standing up! Nice day to be out, but a little breezy on the descents.
