| Got out for training the day before O-Ringen, on the Hiboberget training map, adjacent to the competition terrains. Very glad we got out there - this terrain is TOUGH! Quite technically challenging - definitely the hardest terrain I've been in for a while - makes all the spur-gully stuff I've been doing in preparation for Denmark look childishly easy. Some troubles, especially in low-visibility areas. Also, the footing is very difficult in much of the terrain, making the running quite technical also, as well as making it difficult/impossible to read the map on the run at times. I think this is what Holger was describing on his webpage when he talked about running in Scandinavian terrain.... |

| Travel day: Timmins-Toronto-Munich-Stockholm, followed by a drive up to the Söderhamn area for the O-Ringen. Actually easier than expected with Mia. But because one of us was holding her the whole time, sleep wasn't really an option. The trans-Atlantic flight was packed but we got bulkhead seats so a little more leg room anyway.

| A rack of intervals in the blazing sun on the track, with Heather, Katta and Mia (though Mia was definitely slow...). Mainly 1000m intervals, with some shorter 200-300m stuff at the end. Hot, hot, hot. |

| Moderate run, nothing special... |

 | Other Alternative Training (Paintball) 30:00 [1] | |
| slept:3.5 |
| Yup, nothing like launching a full-on barrage of paint at some poor unsuspecting bastard to ease off the stress. Heart rate definitely goes up, although strictly speaking this is a game of mad dashes, the odd roll and tumble, and lots of crawling around and contorting yourself into the smallest profile possible. Probably not truly useful for much orienteering, but definitely fun. A nice break towards the end of being on call for 72 hours straight.... Logged at a fraction of actual time. |
