Road Ride 1:01:00 [3] 26.0 km (2:21 / km) +180m 2:16 / km
ahr:110 max:141

Destination ride, just for Goose. I had to pick up my rental car at the airport so off I went through Kona proper and then onto the main north-south road. There were quite a few riders going the other way. Other than being on THE Ironman route, I really don't know why anyone would ride this road. It's horribly busy, has no scenery, and has heaps of &:):) all over the shoulder that you're meant to ride on. At least it was sunny out!

I drove over the pass between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa and eventually to the eastern most region of the island. I found my Airbnb and immediately jumped on my bike to explore the coast. Such a good ride! The road was thin, nicely paved, covered by or lined with tropical vegetation, had views to violent waves crashing against the volcanic coastline, and had all sorts of twists and hills. So good.

Road Ride 2:10:00 [3] 53.53 km (2:26 / km) +932m 2:14 / km

I had a plan to do a solo ride today but got convinced to do a deep sea fishing jaunt in the early AM. The best part was doing a conference call with France from the cabin of the boat amid all of the turbulent water. I almost puked but managed stave it off...and pushed our SS18 footwear range plan forward nicely I hope!

Upon our return to shore I headed out for a ride with a colleague. The weather was perfect and despite the first 20km being amid traffic, intersections and a few a-hole drivers, we got up high and onto a thin and quiet set of roads. There were no chain restaurants or hotels to look at, just authentic Hawaii. Very cool.

Road Ride 45:00 [3]

A bit of a bike fail as one of our group got 4 flats and so our early AM ride turned into a lesson on Murphy's Law. At the very least, the scenery and temperature taste we got of the south Kona coastline was great.

Trail Run 1:55:00 [3]
shoes: S-LAB WINGS 7 SG

Leanimal and I went west on the Baden Powell trail from Lynn Valley and did a bit of a discovery run. The track is nicely technical and the there were a lot of riders out. I'm quite impressed at how they seem to control traffic on the trail network.
