Note

Made it back to Switz although it was the most stressful journey ever. Check in and security was so slow we made it to the gate with barely 10 mins before the flight was due to leave and then it didn't go for 45 mins... I was terrified someone would notice H but we got through OK. She was in a real state and I'm hopeing that today she feels a bit better. Poor little thing.

Orienteering race 34:30 [4] 3.5 km (9:51 / km)
shoes: Brooks

British Relay, Second leg Womens short.

Ironically, my mins/k were longer today than yesterday, despite this course being a third of teh length! Basically, I was knackered from yesterday so my legs had nothing in them. I tired to keep moving but they really ached, especially inner thigh. It's a long time since I raced on two consecutive days and I think that just did me in.

Technically OK - a bit scrappy to begin with, but nothing major. Lacked the confidence to run through the bracken and brashings - it's unfamiliar stuff to me!

Orienteering 1:30:35 [5] 10.0 km (9:04 / km) +245m 8:04 / km
shoes: Brooks

British Champs, W21L. Finished 12 out of 24 and was generally pretty pleased. Expected it to be much worse.

Terrain was fast, mainly in the open, and I was surprised that I could run most of it. Started to tire by 15 / 16, esp across the long marshes. Lack of fitness was a problem, but not as much as I thought.

Technically it was good - possibly should have gone straight to no 2 instead of a long diversion north to a path, but I was feeling nervous of the terrain so didn't want to risk it. After that I basically went straight. Missed no 6 by not being sure where I crossed the ridge - hit a marsh to the west and had to go carefully along to the control. Lucky with no 8 where I followed Paul C and Tuomas Tala in... Missed no 10 in control pick area, but only by 15 secs or so (checked another control en route...) Slow getting to 14 - not sure if I should have avoided the marsh better out of 13. Not sure of 19 - no 18 felt wrong in relation to mapped rhodos and I struggled to get my head round that area. Lucky to fall over it just as I was starting to think "I've had it - this is going to be a big error". By that point my brain was dying too!

So really pleased with the result, and the fact I was able to run properly even when worried about Heather & her chicken pox. Carys still beat me but not too badly so there's still hope!
