Orienteering race 1:14:00 [4] 5.3 km (13:58 / km) +300m 10:53 / km
shoes: Jalas Blacks (red)

Swiss Long Champs, nr Basel. Again, v hot, and forest was pretty grotty. It was a well planned course, with lots of route choice, but couldn't help feeling that each time there was a choice, I took the wrong one... Found all the controls OK (apart from no 11 where I found it, didn't realise it was mine and then came back a couple of minutes later...) but lacked speed and agression.

Again, well off the pace. Disappointing, as I hope to do better in W35 than W21, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Last year I had a great run in the Long Champs, but that was later in the year and on open terrain.

This time of year is also pretty bad for me - Apart from a disasterous outing at Bretaye in July, I haven't orienteered properly since end of May, and it's really hard to train during the school holidays. Heather restarts school on Thursday so I will get back to training again. No excuses, just get on with it.

Orienteering race 53:19 [4] 3.7 km (14:25 / km) +190m 11:28 / km
shoes: Jalas Blacks (red)

Nat 8 Middle Dist in the Basel area Jura. Ridiculously hot - 33 degrees when I left the start at 3pm... Organisers did an amazing job of providing extra water, hoses, sponges etc.

Not a v impressive run - mistake to the first control where I was pushed off line by the forest, then generally safe routes. Pleased with my routes through the tricky stuff, but nothing special on the splits. One mistake at 14 where I was too far left.

Well off the pace and the pack.

Note

Damage after Radys - left foot pretty badly mangled, with one large blister on heel and a squashed little toe, and thighs shot to pieces. Worst is my arms - no idea why. Upper arms really ache.... Suspect it has something to do with hauling myself over fallen trees. But overall, OK, and should be able to compete at Swiss Champs this weekend.
