| Orienteering (Follow lines) 15:00 [4] *** 2.7 km (5:33 / km) | ||
| shoes: Falcon VJ | ||
| First training with Valmo, what a nice weather and an open forest! It was very nice to run full speed again.
Follow the line exercise, where I actually ran as fast as possible and saw only 2 of the 7 controls!
| Orienteering (Follow lines) 18:30 [3] *** 2.4 km (7:42 / km) | ||
| shoes: Falcon VJ | ||
| Another follow the lines, shorter distance, but I ran easier and this part was more fuzzier on terrain, so I took two wrong directions. Also paid more attention to the permanent poles and found 6 out of 7. | ||
| Orienteering (short) 8:45 [3] *** 1.25 km (7:00 / km) | ||
| 4c shoes: Falcon VJ | ||
| An ultra short course, no problem. | ||
| Orienteering (Duel) 10:00 [4] *** 2 km (5:00 / km) | ||
| 5c shoes: Falcon VJ | ||
| Duel race on a short course, starting 3 minutes behind the two firsts and 2 minutes behind the third. By the 4th control I had caught every body. Was pushing hard the whole race (which was perhaps a bit too easy) | ||
| Orienteering (Duel) 16:00 [4] *** 2.7 km (5:56 / km) | ||
| 7c shoes: Falcon VJ | ||
| Another duel, this time starting 3 minutes behind the previous third runner. Never saw him but won with a good margin. | ||
Sunday Sep 14 | ||
| Event: OOC Gatineau Park P7 | ||
| Orienteering race 1:26:14 [4] *** 7.1 km (12:09 / km) | ||
| 17c shoes: Falcon VJ | ||
| Damn! Just logging it so that my log appears active. Dont really have time right now because of final departure Thursday.
4 things: - forest was nice but very green, making it hard to impossible to run in some place (actually choosing trails and an attackpoint as close as possible to the control was the key) - nice race for myself, second place, pretty satisfied with my run, good spirit, of course a couple of mistakes where I overran the control or deviate in the thick vegetation, but no disaster as at the NCOF - I felt in control except for the 7th. - impressive Emily, who caught by the 3rd after my lazy start (at least it provided a good kick), after that we kept exchanging the lead depending on our mistakes - she would have beat me if it wasn't for her last big mistake (youth doesnt stand pressure :)) - tore up my trimtex pant and lost a full stud on my Falcon shoes - both date back from Aveyron 2005, so I guess they have done their time. http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/episode/view.do...

| Running long (Trail) 1:34:00 | ||
| shoes: MT800 New Balance | ||
| Last run on Mount Royal. I guess that's why I did an extra long run, going through many "landmarks" or touring the tracks, benefiting from the last glimpse fo Montreal from this beautiful site. Because it should not be considered a safe way to train given my irregular training. Actually, it's the sequel of last sunday with my right eye getting hit two times, the first with enough force so that I have a bruise in the eye white. That's a week of first, let's hope t will not be the same Sunday.

Sunday Sep 7 | ||
| Orienteering race 1:07:18 | ||
| 25c shoes: Falcon VJ | ||
| Bois de Liesse event - I was curious to see the wood without snow, as it looked nice during the winter - some precise terrain movements which seemed appealing - well it is nice but the summer vegetation didn't help.
Apart from this, not the best race to remember. As often on such -apparently- easy terrain, I ran almost too fast for my orienteering, which gives some deviations and mistakes, like at the controls number 5, 10, 11, 16, and 19. And then I lost a contact lens in the green approach to 19th: a leaf just brushed my left eye so slightly that I didn't realize immediately what happened. It is the very first time I lose a contact while orienteering - usually it will move and come back into the eye when brushed. Stuck in the green, suddenly it felt weird and I was completely disturbed, not sure if I could safely finish the race without stereo vision! Well actually it appears that your brain can still infer a bit of depth information, based on the apparent movement of your surroundings. Except that when you look at details without a distant background, like branches on the ground, you dont have the depth anymore. So I still tried to run carefully and keep to big lines, but it was a mess and, well, I was floating around, sometimes disoriented. By the 20th Thomas caught me (which meant I lost already 5 minutes between the 19th and the 20th!) and I lost another 5 minutes until the end. http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/episode/view.do...
