Snowshoe Raid with soles. We didn't really start with a plan, just go clockwise and skip controls based on what the time was.
Made an early call to skip #46 and #48 which gave us a nice trail run down to #49 - this leg confirmed ditching snowshoes was the right choice for us.
Hit #50 at exactly 1:30 into the race, which was the goal.
Almost went astray following tracks into #53, just as I got the feeling we were on the wrong spur, Timato comes back in the other direction confirming it was. Skipped #56.
Hit #55 with one hour to go, soles went off and got #32 and #31 with me off to get #33 and one of the other 2 CPs in the Matrix and meet back at the Aid Station with the plan of needing 30 mins to get back. Got 33 no problem, but got to the bottom of the hill below #35 with less than 15 mins to get back to the Aid Station. Looking at the wall I'd have to climb to get to it, decided I wouldn't have time (correct move, reports say it took 10-20 mins to get that one) and hoofed back to the aid station.
Was a little late, leaving a few mins behind schedule. Both our legs were pooched so we didn't bother with #38 or #43 on the way back (and #39 was never in the plan) and got back with a couple mins to spare. Perfect.
I actually enjoyed not having snowshoes, I often get to the final hour of the race, the novelty wears off and start to hate them (though yeah, it wasn't as pretty as other years). Views from #50 and #53 were phenomenal and worth the effort. Fun times.
