Orienteering race 1:21:43 [3]

I was very relaxed pre race and I just wanted a clean run knowing I'd be losing time in the open stuff. Had issues with my first control just came up on the wrong side of the gully - my interpretation of the middle of circle was off, hit fence and back into the control. Got my jog on and got into a nice rythym was nice and clean. Interesting some of the splits in 35a, I had to walk a section to control 12 but nailed control 15 but lost the leg by 30 seconds. I did lose time at 18 - 1st control back in the green. 19 fine. Ran strongly through the bush to 20 but not enough confidence as I came into the control. Some nice short legs to finish and overall happy with the run.

Orienteering race 1:39:24 [3]

Was a successful day for me, possibly my best nav at a National level event in particular given how tough it was. I remember at control 2 thinking wow that was easy, I'd picked up everything I needed too and hit both controls spot on. First mistake at 3 stopping on the edge of the circle before heading further up the hill side and into the control - no more than a minute lost. Im showing time losses at control 4 and 5 but most of that is probably having a couple of pause moments to clarify what I was seeing before I went further. Inside the circle I hit both these controls fine. Control 5 lost time was how I circled around the big rock about half way to the control.

Control 6 executed as planned maybe could have been a little more confident as I approached the circle, was a little greener than I expected. Control7 got out to the fence and went for a jog via the start triangle but worked out really well and came in of the fence with complete confidence into the control. Losta minute on 8 bounced from one spur line to the other but corrected fairly quickly.

Nine was straight forward - massive feature just had to keep my direction. Control 10 i thought was dangerous so I walked given the lack of anything around it. 11 - goat track into the gully. control 12 had a significant fall during the leg but contoured nicely into the control once i came off the track.

14 - hit this control fine. But it's interesting to see the colour difference in grey bare rock. I was shocked when I saw the control descrption I thought I was heading to light green vegetation!

15 getting distracted by others when i knew i shouldn't be going to the left. Went to another control as soon as i saw the number I did my thing and hit my control.

Orienteering race 1:09:26 [3]

Felt a little scrappy early on in the course which should have been expected given it's been a while since I've been in the bush. It wasn't until control 7 that I felt comfortable and was starting to pick up the detail I needed too. Control 13 drifted too far right and wish I'd dropped to the fence earlier to correct quickly but was reluctant to in front of everyone. Control 14 similar mistake just trying to rush things and not focusing on the map. Finally slowed down to a pace I could navigate at and was clean for the rest of the course.
