Note

Back in Perth in the wee hours of the morning

Gym 44:00 [2]
weight:76.9kg

pm: An abreviated gym session at SportsMed Subi. Tried to do a bit of everything. Went better than expected and was able to do the same weights as before, even after 1 month of inactivity. Sore afterwards though.

Running 33:56 [3] 6.7 km (5:04 / km)

pm: Pretend run in Kings Pk. Ran like an absolute bogan. It's amazing how much fitness and co-ordination one can lose in a couple of weeks. Even more amazing will be how it long it will take to get back to full fitness again

Note

Left ankle was killing me in the last km of the run. This is after not having run a step for about 2 weeks! Right knee was as solid as a rock though, no sign of the niggling problems I had on and off for months before I went on hols.

Note

Travelling to Moscow today. Coming down with a nasty Russian cold and a severe case of cbf

Sunday Sep 21, 2008 #

Running 31:15 [3] 5.5 km (5:41 / km)

pm: Got my luggage back today so I thought I would celebrate by going for a run. Around the streets of St Petersburg near the river. Crap run but good to be doing something.

Wednesday Sep 17, 2008 #

Note

Flight from Stuttgart to St Petersburg (via Berlin). AirBerlin managed to lose my luggage. Was a challenge trying to sort things it out in St Petersburg with my lack of Russian and their lack of English. Took 4 days to be re-united with the luggage. The running shoes were missed more than anything else.

Running 46:41 [3] 9.0 km (5:11 / km)

am: Run in Rosenstein and Schlossgarten with 15 min of tempo.
Finally got around to logging this after 3 weeks!

Monday Sep 15, 2008 #

Running 40:45 [3] 8.0 km (5:06 / km)

am: Back in Stuttgart. Ran in Rosenstein park again. Includes 6 hill reps up the steep slope close to the river.

Saturday Sep 13, 2008 #

Running 40:22 [3] 8.0 km (5:03 / km)

am: Same run as yesterday, but ran a bit farther before turning around.

Friday Sep 12, 2008 #

Running 35:33 [3] 7.0 km (5:05 / km)

am: Ran from the B&B through town to the river Arno and then along the river. Ran through a gypsy camp on the outskirts of town. I was surprised by how squalid it was. From the looks I got, it seems that the sight of someone running through their camp was a little unusual. Ran a different route on the return leg.

Note

Travelling to Pisa

Wednesday Sep 10, 2008 #

Running 37:25 [3] 6.5 km (5:45 / km)

am: From Monterosso, west along the waterfront as far as possible and then along a track that petered out on the rugged slope close to the point to the west of town (can't remember its name). Added an out back run on the inland track from the old part of town.

Monday Sep 8, 2008 #

Running 35:04 [3] 6.5 km (5:24 / km)

am: In Monterosso. Ran part of the walking track to Vernazza. Went until my quads couldn't take any more steps. Headed back to town and then did an out and back loop on another track that follows the stream inland from the town. This one had fewer steps :-)

Note

Walked all afternoon. Caught the train to Riomaggiore and did the coastal walk back to Monterosso. Easily more than 1000 steps (there's 382 in one go from the railway station up to Corniglia). Not surprisingly, quads were suffering a bit.

Sunday Sep 7, 2008 #

Running 30:06 [3] 5.0 km (6:01 / km)

am: Short run in Monterosso al Mare. Ran a million steps. Its impossible to run very far in this place without going uphill somewhere. My quads copped a pounding and are complaining now!

Friday Sep 5, 2008 #

Running 49:53 [3] 9.0 km (5:33 / km)

am: Rosenstein and Schlossgarten again. A bit longer this time. After the half way mark I threw in a tempo effort just to spice it up a bit. Absolutely no strength in the legs. Started running up and down on the spot after a gentle hill after about 10 min and decided that I'd done enough. Slow jog for the last 2k or so.
On the train to Italy tomorrow, so I probably won't get a chance to run.

Wednesday Sep 3, 2008 #

Running 43:33 [3] 8.5 km (5:07 / km)

am: Rosensteinpark and Unterer Schlossgarten again. As big as it is, I'm starting to get a bit bored with running around the same park. Still, it's better than running the streets.
There seem to be a lot of fag smokers in Europe. You have to run the gauntlet outside every large shop or museum. bluurghh! I thought that sort of thing would have been on the decline. It reminds of the old days in the Eastern bloc where you would see people having one last, long drag just before they started running their O course.

Tuesday Sep 2, 2008 #

Running 44:00 [3] 8.5 km (5:11 / km)

am: Run in Rosenstein park and Unterer Schlossgarten. Distance and time approximate. I ran this one at a more normal speed. Seem to be getting over the jetlag (finally).
