Gym 20:00 [1]

pm: At SportsMed Subi. Just a bit of this and that for the upper body. Surprising how sore I was afterwards.

Note

The plaster cast was replaced by a 'fibreglass' version. It's lighter, but still just as big. My foot is still flexed, though, and that means ordinary activities like driving a car are not something that I can do easily. The new cast will stay on for at least another 2 weeks. Still not likely to be doing any significant exercise in the meantime.

Note

Operation in the evening.

I saw the surgeon on Sat and he was keen to operate as soon as possible. Said that they would call me on Mon morning to let me know when. So I spent the weekend running around trying to tidy up everything before the big day. On Monday morning I got a call to say that I should start fasting from 9am and to be at the hospital at noon. Received a second call shortly afterwards to announce a change of plan: I should fast from noon and be at the hospital at 4pm. Of course that meant that I spent the entire day hanging around, waiting. The wait in the hospital was the worst; I was the last op for the day. I'm not sure when I went in to the theatre, because there didn't seem a clock anywhere in the hospital, but it must have been after 8pm.
Awoke with a heavy plaster cast on my leg, from 3/4 of the way up my shin to the toes. Apparently the operation went OK. The doc didn't need to pilfer the tendon from my arm. Not allowed to take weight on the cast though, and I can't move around much. The cast will be removed after 2 weeks and replaced with another lighter cast. Obviously no chance to exercise for quite a while.

Note

Got the results of the MRI on my left foot - "... a high-grade, possibly complete, tear of the flexor hallucis tendon with associated tenosynovitis.".
Translation: an operation as soon as possible, and then a long recovery. Probably no running for quite a while, maybe 4-6 months.
