This time my foot and ankle were better behaved, although they gave me a little bit of grief afterwards, especially when walking barefoot.

pm: Couldn't go riding this morning and didn't have enough time in the afternoon, so I thought I would try a bit of jogging just on dark. I could do it at Subiaco Palms on the flat area because it gets a bit of light from the street lights. yeah. Only problem was that I didn't anticipate how arkward it would be without good light - my toe and ankle didn't like it at all. Ended up running around the streets a bit. 1x3, 1x5 and 1x8. At this rate I can't see myself going in the bush any time soon.

Note

Was going to go for a ride this morning, but there was too much cleaning up to do in the wake of yesterday's storm. Also didn't really feel like it. Was tired from climbing all over the roof yesterday evening. The roof was plastered with small branches and leaves and the gutters were choked with debris. I actually cleaned them out last week and installed gutter guard in some of them. Had to repeat the job because they were choked with debris after the storm and the gutter guard was gone in places - blown away never to be seen again.

am: Subiaco Palms. With 4x3 min and 1x3.5. Slowly increasing the distances for each interval. Left big toe was better behaved this morning than it has been for a while. Left ankle was also pretty good.

am: Same as yesterday, but went a bit farther and turned in from the coast and came back through the back streets of Wembley Downs. Got slightly disoriented on the way back, but it turned out well. Not too much traffic and no traffic lights.

am: Search for a good route to the north continued. This time I went Railway, Lemnos, Brockway, Perry lakes, Oceanic, Elphin St, The Boulevard out to the coast and along Chipping Rd for a bit before turning around and heading home. Seems promising.

am: Out to Guildford and return. A replay of last weekend's ride, except that this time I managed to score a headwind on the way out, and on the way back, with a very early sea breeze. Luckily the wind wasn't strong.

Learned something new today (obviously my education is incomplete). I was following a guy on a road bike (just briefly) along the path next to Kings Park, when up ahead we spy a woman walking a dog coming towards us. Roadie dings his bell (loudly) and moves over to the left. I follow. All good so far. Except that the foolish woman does a rabbit-in-the-spotlight impersonation and then suddenly steps over on to our side of the path leaving the dog on the opposite side with the leash stretched out across the path. After much hard braking a collision is avoided and roadie says to the woman "You should stay over to the left". To which the woman replies emphatically "No it's to the right. When you have a dog you stay to the right". Obviously I've had it all wrong all these years :-) Some people are just too thick to learn anything new.

am: Usual Fri ride out to Claremont via UWA, Hackett Dr, The Avenue, Birdwood, Jutland, Victoria Ave etc. and return, with a lap of Kings Pk at the end. Reasonably warm morning, after possibly the hottest night of the summer, but didn't seem too bad on the bike. Hard work, though, into the wind on the way back on Birdwood Pde.

am: Out to Guidlford and return via UWA and the river. Took to the streets in East Perth to avoid the crowds at a triathlon on the foreshore, otherwise went the same way as I did in Nov last year and ended up taking about the same time as I did then. Stopped for an icecream in Guildford.
One time in the future I'll continue on from Guildford out into the Swan valley ...

am: Out to the golf complex via Perry Lakes etc. This time I continued on to Empire Ave and followed it around to Newman College. Made the mistake of turning right and going along Tuscany way, then had to put up with all the slow traffic going into the college or dropping off kids at some dumb-arse school a bit farther along (who in their right mind goes to school at 7:30? does school start then?). Probably won't come this way again.
Struggled a bit today and wasn't really keen to work too hard on the way home.

am: The search for good route to the north - continued. Headed west initially, and then north. It seems to be a much better option. Lemnos St, Brockway, Perry Lakes, and Bold Pk Dr to the golf complex. Very promising, quiet roads and hardly anyone else on two wheels. I'll go a bit farther tomorrow.

am: At Subiaco Palms. A big interval session - 5 x 2 min jogging. First one was slow and unco, second was much better and by the last I felt like I was almost running.
Still having trouble with the left ankle at times. It appears to be when I'm not concentrating and I slip into the habit of not taking the weight fully on the ball of the foot.

pm: Core and postural. Pretty much a full set of exercises for the first time since the op. Skimped a bit on the plank stuff because my toe is still not completely comfortable with it.

am: A bit of pottering about checking out alternative ways through Jolimont and Wembley to Herdsman Lake. Decided in the end that it's a hopeless cause. Too many sets of lights and too much traffic. I'll try going by Floreat and Churchlands next time.
