am: Long ride. Up the Swan as far as the Tonkin Hwy, then south side of river to the narrows, freeway bikepath, and then Canning river, Southern River and a bit in the streets in Huntingdale. Back same way.

am: Very early ride in the dark to the Esplanade train station (4:45). Nice and quiet out there at this time of morning.

am: RAC Freeway bike hike from Mandurah to Perth.
Keen to see how I would go on a ride like this - straight, flat and non-stop - and whether I could average over 30kph. Smashed it in the end :)
Start was a shambles. It took a long time to actually get on the bike and start peddling, and I had to ride very carefully for the first 5 or 10 min. After that it was OK, albeit with a little bit too much traffic for my liking. Only saw the results of a few crashes. Surprised that there weren't more!
Middle section of the ride was great. I kept on seeing the same riders pop up again and again and eventually we formed a tight group of about 5 to 10 depending on exactly who was there at the time. I even took a few turns on the front!
Finish of the ride was a another shambles as we began catching the stragglers from one of the shorter rides. Eventually it just became crazy as we had to weave in and out of the slow traffic and dodge little kids. After the Narrows Bridge it was too congested to go any faster than the masses so the ride was effectively over and I just rolled into the finish.
Max. speed was about 47 and I don't think I dropped below 30 at any stage except for the start and finish chaos.
Quite pleased with myself, especially as I kept up with all the guys on their million dollar bikes :)
