Teering race 34:07 [4] 3.6 km (9:29 / km) +165m 7:43 / km
shoes: Inov8 OROC 280

Kanebogam, Harstad, Middle Distance. Okm 3.0. Struggled on the two steep, directly uphill legs, otherwise OK. A competitive run at last, I managed to squeeze into the top 10 today, 2 minutes off 5th place, and maybe improve on 14th overall. Lost 3 minutes on the 2 short uphill legs, where I was moving at about 20 min/km. Bit of a wake up call - I really only made one serious error over the 4 days, so coped well with the navigation, but still finished way down every day.

Teering race 1:08:25 [4] **** 6.36 km (10:46 / km) +208m 9:15 / km

Kanebogam, Harstad. M55, 17th, lost another place to 14th. Physical forest, steep, tough vegetation underfoot and small birch trees. Running form a bit better, but couldn't really run free much. Nearly got 1 first time but went away and came back (-1 min). No 2 was difficult - a nearly 100m climb on the leg at a gradient of about 20%. Wayward en route to 4, but corrected (-1 min). Primeval forest to 7, and Winsplits suggests I made a bad route choice here by keeping height. Should have gone down to the fence - fastsest split here was 4 minutes quicker than mine. Missed the last a little - didn't see gate on map (-10 secs).

Midnatsolgaloppen, Day 2, M55 14th. Kronvatnet, Sorreisa. Okm 5.2. Terribly slow again but still enjoyable in this magical terrain. Went in a little early on no. 1 (-45 secs), spiked the rest. However, 2, 3 2nd 4 I was actually losing places; but that was because they were all up hill. At 7 probably lost 15 seconds although I was right there - the knoll wasn't that distinguishable. A bit lucky with 10; the map wasn't relatable to the terrain.

Midnattsolsgaloppen, Day 1, M55 12th. Krokvatnet, Sorreisa. Okm 5.3. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? Could not muster any drive at all. Steep and soggy but wonderful terrain. The eventual winner caught me by 2 minutes at no. 1, steep uphill. Then I had a bit of a battle with one guy who I had passed at 2, but left me for dead on another climb to 3. I reeled him back in when it got flatter and then he made another mistake. Great orienteering, but where is my fitness?
