The Gib, Bungendore. M55, 2nd. This time by 10 seconds to Geoff. Lost it (28 seconds) at the 5m cliff that was the spectator control you could see from the assembly area. That's the third spectator control I've stuffed up from the last 3 opportunities. This one was all my fault - punched 12 just ahead of Paul Pacque who I had caught 2 minutes on at no. 2 and rushed 13. Didn't read map properly and crossed ridge which I shouldn't have. Saw a big grey rock and just went for it. Wrong one. Worked out where I was when I could see the compulsory fence crossing way off to my left when I should have been straight above it.
On the plus side, good run, read the (new) map well in the granite and the foot didn't hurt much at all. In fact most of the relevant boulders were just about standing up waving - OVER HERE! at me. Plus I had a tailwind all the way around.

Teering race (Aus Champs) 54:11 [4] ***** 6.92 km (7:50 / km) +166m 6:59 / km
spiked:11/16c weight:77.4kg (injured) shoes: VJ Bold

Slap Up Creek, M55, 4th. Reality bites and the R foot was sore jogging to the start. Sure enough a couple of wrenches in the first bit of bush and I was unable to run properly after that. Just no platform to drive off - no stability and pretty sore. The bush was very pretty but rough underfoot with fallen timber and rocks so I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to.
Made mistakes too - at no. 4 (-1:15), 5 (-1:15), 6 (-1:30), 12 (-30) and 13 (-15) so how I managed to fluke 4th in a strong field is a mystery.
