Water Running 10:00 [3]

11 AM

Teering race (Oceania Champs) 33:49 [4] **** 4.2 km (8:04 / km) +43m 7:40 / km
shoes: VJ Bold

Diddleum, Ben Bullen. Relays. Warren and Geoff gave me an unbeatable lead, so took it fairly carefully. Difficult to run on the tussocks, furrows and marshes. Drifted off line on the way to 4 and dropped about 3 minutes.

Water Running 10:00 [3]

1 PM

Teering race (Oceania Champs) 15:09 [5] **** 2.82 km (5:23 / km) +16m 5:14 / km
shoes: ASICS Gel Nimbus 15 white2

University of Tasmania, Launceston. Sprint Distance, M55, 3rd. Still sluggish and got sucked in to various traps (1 -0s, 5 -22s and 6 -19s). One bad route choice to 10 (-19s). Finished a decisive 1:04 down on Geoff, which is I think the furthest behind I've been on an age group sprint.

Teering 22:53 [1] 1.42 km (16:09 / km) +2m 16:02 / km
shoes: ASICS Gel Nimbus 15 white2

Shadowing Aoife and later Larissa Edwards and briefly 5 or 6 other M/W10s.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.5 km (6:40 / km) +10m 6:27 / km
shoes: ASICS Gel Nimbus 15 white2

Water Running 10:00 [3]

Cataract Gorge, after watching the World Cup Sprint Qualification. A dud race since most got through and given the short start block differences there is room for everybody in the Final. NZ lost two of their guns in this qual.

Cycling (MTB) 1:40:00 [2] 23.01 km (4:21 / km) +87m 4:16 / km

Yarra River Trail to the Collingwood animal farm cafe, which was closed. So had lunch in the Botanic Gardens, followed by the abysmal Disney Fairy Trail.

2014 Review
Training - quite similar to last year with a bit more cycling (3,400km) and a bit more run+O (500km). That's 4 years of increases now since the 2010 low point. Plus that was after missing a month in May due to being overseas.
Injuries - got over the Aug 13 stress fracture in the mid foot early in the year.
Missed Easter with sudden onset back spasm (SOBS).
Three colds this year.

Competition: No impression on Lawford/Key/Vincent - finished behind them in 4 races (NSW sprint 2nd to Geoff, Aus Champs Sprint 3rd to Warren/Geoff, Aus Long and Middle 4th to all 3).
Did win the NSW Middle Distance as they didn't show.
Another State League overall win - 7 wins from 8 starts.
Also again contributed to BigFoot's win in the MetroLeague, Div 1.
MTB - 5 races, best was 4th in the Australian Middle Distance at Alice Springs.

Reached as high as 78 in the Big Pink rankings but lost a couple of really good scores late in the year to finish well down.

Note
(rest day)

Decided to take a rest day and let Left knee settle. A pity, I was 3rd yesterday and third overall in Mens B. However that would have been difficult to defend, and Oceania is a bit more important, so "Let it Go".

4 PM

Teering race (Xmas 5 Days) 43:30 [4] 7.88 km (5:31 / km) +138m 5:04 / km
shoes: ASICS Gel Nimbus 15 white2

Pyrmont, XMas 5 days, Day 3. Stuffed up route choice, got to my last control on 38 minutes, so basically had 5 minutes spare. Had got all the close ones, so went back out and got #3. Still got back 2 minutes early. So should have planned to get them all (Like Mel Cox did) - probably would have gone overtime by a couple of minutes, but that would have been 580 instead of 540. Hot day, running OK, but left knee starting to niggle. May pull out of tomorrows race.
