East Kowen, Long, M60, 2nd. Managed to get through without any major mistakes, but still chose a lot of poor route choices. To 3, shouldn't have U-turned and climbed 3 extra hills (-1min), to 8 didn't see the access track under the magenta line (-30s); to 9 should have more direct (-30s); to 13 (-1min) should have U-turned as the track I took was really difficult (walked a lot of it) and the finish should have taken the track, not the open (-20s). Winsplits shows I also lost time (20s each) to 5 (hesitated as I mistook an open area for a track) and 11 - not sure how others went that much faster but I was only 9th fastest on that leg, part bumpy single track.
Missed starting my GPS for the third time.
After the horrors of the last two days good to see that AP thinks I made the least mistakes on the course and also glad that my mapboard behaved itself.

East Kowen, Middle, M60, 5th. Poor start - crashed after 300m and bent my new mapboard which eventually shook itself loose. Then missed the pink tape track to 2 - 16th at this stage. Missed the exit to the fire trail to 4 (-20s). Good to 5, 1 second slower than Rob G and was able to plan up to 11 as well. Up to 2nd place by 6 and held that to 11.
However, I hadn't had a good opportunity to plan to 12 so in haste mistakenly went to 13 then 12 then started to 14. After I had opened and shut a gate behind me I had the next opportunity on a fire trail to have a good look at the map so realised what I'd done. Back to 13 (-5 minutes) and then stuffed the route choice to 14 - went back past near 12, through the open then close gate and then didn't see the yellow option (-3 minutes). I could have used the yellow at 12 as well (-1 minute). So over 9 minutes of mistakes plus a wobbly mapboard.

MTB Orienteering race (ACT Champs) 28:13 intensity: (26 @2) + (50 @3) + (24:55 @4) + (2:02 @5) 13.5 km (2:05 / km) +235m 1:55 / km

East Stromlo from the Arboretum. Mass Start. 49 people, 400m to the first control straight up a fire trail. Couldn't get my map clipped in (new map board), so started basically 49th and although I passed lots of people got to no. 1 17th in the queue, 39 seconds behind the leader. Amazingly I was still just ahead of Rob G here.
In the flurry, forgot to start GPS. Stuck behind lots of people on the single track into no. 2 (-20s) and then took the wrong turn to no. 3 (-1 min). Chose a bad route choice to 6 (-1 min), so was in 9th M60 (16th on the course), 3 minutes down on Rob G finishing the looped section.
A couple of good straightforward legs and I was up to 7th. Passed Richard R on the way to 10, but then chose the solid firetrail instead of the more direct "difficult" track - so the three behind me got back ahead to 10. Managed to sprint past them all in time for the Zoo trail single track section. Caught sight of the next 3 M60's in a pack leaving the last control (12) but 50 seconds was always going to be too big a gap to close on a 1:37 leg.

MTB Orienteering 44:48 intensity: (9:02 @0) + (25:13 @1) + (6:43 @2) + (2:45 @3) + (1:01 @4) + (4 @5) 5.0 km (8:57 / km) +38m 8:38 / km

Stromlo, last chance training. Did the long loop (16.9km - 1:14:40), the standard start/finish - in the middle went Wedgetail-Pork Barrel-Skippys/Brindabella (not signposted)-Deep Creek etc. Probably should have added Shadys. Alternative would have been Rollercoaster-Magpie Rock- Slick Rock.
