Event: 2006 North American Championships (Golden Leaf Orienteering Fest)
 
Orienteering 50:00 [2] 4 km (12:30 / km)

NAOC Model. Well, I wasn't feeling too confident about the middle and long after this. Hit only a few controls right on, even though I was going slow. Not too worried about making huge mistakes in the championships, although losing up to 2 or 3 minutes on half of the controls seemed quite possible.

NAOC Sprint, McMaster University. Very good race, only a few slight hesistations and maybe a couple not-so-good route choices. Finished 12th/45, 0:57 behind the winner, MrPither. Pleased that my running speed was good enough to put me quite close to the lead pack.

Along the Orphan Lake Trail in Lake Superior PP. Lots of rocks and roots in spots, certainly more NAOC-relevant than the trails around home! Times: 2:30 (1:30 jog) 2:15 (3:45 run/jog/walk... longer rest because of rocky downhill, couldn't go fast) 2:30 (1:30 jog) 2:30 (1:00 jog) 2:25.

5K trial in the park, along the triathlon route. 1.25 km splits: 4:24, 4:32, 4:43, 4:17. Goal was 18:15, so I was quite pleased with my time. Surprised that I was able to speed up 26 seconds in the last quarter. I wasn't really expecting sub-18 after the slow third quarter.

New 5K PR by 35 to 56 seconds (not sure about old record as I don't know the exact distance of other runs), although that's not as good as it may sound because I haven't run a good 5K recently.
