Event: Possum Trot Weekend

Orienteering 25:51 [4] 4 km (6:28 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (ret.)
O' Mt. O', Sprint on the Mt Oread map at the University of Kansas, in Lawrence. Great area for a sprint. Speed aside, I did pretty well, making one very small mistake on #6, and probably few hesitations or not-so-good route choices elsewhere. However, good foot speed seemed to be lacking... not sure whether I was just a tad slow or a fair bit slow. Falling on some stairs on the way to #7 didn't help either, butt was sore for a couple minutes, and perhaps I was a bit too cautious in the icy places afterwards?

Finished 2nd to Darius, by 1:15, in the under 40 category. 3rd overall, behind Thomas Carr as well, by 0:26.
Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.5 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (ret.)
With Darius and Tim, mostly. Seemed to be heading downhill... felt pretty good during warmup, a bit slow during the race, then felt like crap afterwards. Felt okay when we went out on the permanent course though.
Orienteering 40:00 [2] 4 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (ret.)
Shawnee Mission Park Permanent Course with Darius. Not making much sense of the map in places, guess that was mainly because some trails and creeks were indistinct with the snow cover. Finding the markers (after getting to right area) was hard... they were rather small and nailed to trees, so could be hard to spot, especially if you're on the other side of the tree. Oh well, good to be out anyways, would have liked to go to a few more controls, but didn't have a lot of time.

Sprint - Splits

Short morning run before heading out.

Skiing 28:00 [1] 3.5 km (8:00 / km)
Thought it would be nice to get out for a ski, so I drove over to the park to go skiing there. Started off on the trails but didn't like blazing them, so I switched to the roads where snowmobiles/ATVs had left tracks. My hands were a bit cold, and I generally wasn't having a good time, so I decided to cut it short and head back. Then the basket came off one of my poles again, and I had had enough of skiing. Thought that I'd take off my skis and walk or jog back. But my skis wouldn't come off, so I skied back. My hands warmed up a bit and I was feeling pretty good when I got back to the vehicle. Still couldn't get my ski boots off my skis. I didn't have any other footwear and was unsure how I'd manage driving with my skis on :), so I stepped out of my ski boots and drove back in my socks.

Around the block. Started out fast but lost motivation in the cold/wind, and then felt a bit stiff.

Running 1:05:00 [2] 11.8 km (5:31 / km) +160m 5:10 / km
ahr:156 shoes: Skechers Endorphin
Nice morning run in the falling snow. Went over to the park, around for a bit and back. Ran around the hill for a few minutes after getting to the park (times for the eastern loop 1:22, 1:38), and for a few minutes before heading back (times for the eastern loop 1:34, 1:40, 1:39).

Sunday Nov 26

Running hills 38:16 [3] 5.2 km (7:22 / km) +550m 4:49 / km
ahr:172 shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (ret.)
Up and down the hill in the park, 46 times. Did the eastern loop 6 times, going down the middle trail (times 1:23, 1:28, 1:26, 1:24, 1:32, 1:30), ran around the west side of the hill (2:16), did the eastern loop 6 times, going up the middle trail (times 1:33, 1:33, 1:30, 1:31, 1:36, 1:34), ran around the west side of the hill (2:34), and finally did the eastern loop 10 times, going down the middle trail (times 1:29, 1:32, 1:32, 1:34, 1:31, 1:34, 1:36, 1:33, 1:34, 1:31).

Felt pretty good, although I wasn't trying to go fast. Probably the most climb I've ever done in a day while running. Guess I should rest up a bit before the possum trot now.
Running 42:00 [1] 7 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D (ret.)
To/from and around the park.
