Orienteering 1:04:09 [4] 5.4 km (11:53 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D old
Nav-Stock Middle, Johnson Tract map. Had felt good like I had good speed during the Night-O, so I was optimistic today, but the speed wasn't there this morning. Neither was good navigation, I made a huge 13 minute mistake on #5. Not bad other than that though, maybe 2.5 minutes mistakes in other mistakes. Would have been within 7 minutes of the winner, Hans, with a clean run.
Orienteering 15:32 [4] 2.3 km (6:45 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D old
Nav-Stock Sprint, Bass Lake PP. I made no mistakes, although I could been running faster. My speed was up-and-down throughout the race... I usually felt sluggish at the top of the hill, and pretty good at the bottom. Wasn't particularly close to the winner, as Jon blew the field away with an impressive 12:54.
Running warm up/down 15:00 2.75 km (5:27 / km)

Event: Nav-Stock

Orienteering 1:03:33 4.08 km (15:35 / km)

Nav-Stock Night-O, Schumacher Mt. Map. Mass start score event. My route was 1-2-3-7-4-5-6-8-9-10. Was pretty smart in the beginning, playing it safe and sticking to the trails as much as possible. Then I wasn't so smart and lost a lot of time on 8 and 9. Attempted going straight from 6 to 8, but had no luck finding the vegetation boundry, had no idea where I was on the slope, and seemed to be caught in thicker stuff all the time. Still had some sense in me because after reaching the powerline, I followed it up to the trail, cutting my losses at about 4 minutes. Then I lost 14 minutes on #9. Attempted to go straight, but missed it and was hopelessly wandering around. Eventually attacked from the trail junction to the SE and found it. All of the top runners were saving themselves for the Team Trials and not competing in the Night-O, so I was able to get 2nd place with my bad run. Was 7 minutes behind Joe Sackett, and 1 sec ahead of Charlie S. Guess he didn't see or hear me coming up behind him at the end, or didn't care.
