Long at Hartney. Felt like I was running faster today, but made a few more mistakes. Still a good race, total lost time around 5 minutes. About half of that came on #5. I ended up on the ridge 200 m SSE of the control. Got pulled too far south by the vegetation, then made the hills fit. Made a 1:00 boom on #13... was trying to run faster (good idea because it was near the end of the course and I wasn't tired, but pointing myself in the right direction first would have been a better idea) and headed off to the west, or even northwest at one point, before realizing that I was getting closer to the powerline and correcting. Then a few 0:30 bobbles on #4 (not staying in the opener areas as much as I could have (while going around the white/green but in the middle of the leg), and stepping in some cacti which I stopped to remove form my shoe), #7 (unsure as I came in from the southwest, got to the correct hill but hesitated a bit before deciding to take a closer look on that hill instead of heading northwest to the next hill) and #9 (didn't keep good enough track of the hills, came out to the fence then headed north).

Perhaps I should note that I ended up quite a bit off course, when my direction or travel was off by about 90 degrees, three times during the race. That seems quite bad. On #5 and #13, it cost me about 3:30 total. On #4, however, going the wrong way might have saved me some time... my plan was to go more or less straight, but I ended up coming out to the trail, 150 m south of the powerline junction. Because of this, I changed my route and decided to go around the swath of forest in the middle of the leg, which I think was a better route.

Orienteering 35:56 [4] 5.2 km (6:55 / km)

Middle at Hartney. Very good race, I probably wasn't running that fast but only made a couple minor mistakes. Got caught up in a bit of thick crap while heading for the trail after leaving #6 (~0:15), and 0:25 on #8 when I drifted a little south of my intended route after crossing the trail.
Running warm up/down 23:00 [1] 4 km (5:45 / km)
shoes: Adidas Swoop 2
Collecting controls for the cooldown.

Around the park.

Thursday Sep 20

Running 50:00 [2] 9.6 km (5:12 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D old
Around the park.

Wednesday Sep 19

Cycling 12:00 [2] 4 km (3:00 / km)
Around the park with the dog. Went slow mostly (didn't log that time) but I sped up a few times to see how fast I could go and/or how fast the dog could go.
Running 46:00 7.5 km (6:08 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D old
7 min warmup jog, then ran around a loop Down South, around the gravel pit and through the eastern swamp/timberland. Just over 39 min for the 6.3 km loop. Expected to be faster, but I guess you can't go very fast when tall weeds/reeds/grass are hiding logs and uneven ground underfoot.
Cycling 18:00 [1] 6.5 km (2:46 / km)
Biked south a bit because I didn't want to run all the way to the test loop Down South.
