| Selection Race at Jessica Lake. Did okay, no big mistakes, but seemed to be hesitant or a bit far off too many times. Also think I got a bit lucky with spotting controls when I was near them but not exactly sure where I was. Was doing pretty good in the beginning, with a bunch of little things adding up to about 2 minutes of mistakes on the first 10 controls. Then I lost a lot of time, 4-5 minutes, on the northernmost controls... maybe I lost some concentration after coming off a 2 K trail/road run towards #11? Coming into #11 from the SE, I encountered some deadfall and perhaps trying to avoid the worst of it pulled me more to the west rather than the northwest. Got held up in a large area of deadfall going from 11 to 12, and then ended up going a little too far. There was much less deadfall if you went south of the line, which I might have done had I remembered the meet notes (they said there was deadfall between 11 & 12, so staying in the areas mapped as open would make sense, and it was opener to the south). Was far too hesitant/unsure on #14, even after I had spotted the control (took too long deciding to take the long way around to the control, rather than going straight with the risk of falling into a watery crevasse).
I was 13 minutes behind MrPither, would have liked to be a bit closer, but I needed to be a bit cleaner for that to happen. Getting in better shape wouldn't hurt either. |
