Saturday Dec 1

Event: Possum Trot Weekend

Orienteering 29:52 [4] 4.66 km (6:25 / km)
shoes: Adidas Swoop 2
Woodridge Middle. Didn't make many mistakes but the course was fairly easy so it wasn't a great run, but still good. Lost maybe 0:45 on #8... came out of the dark green SSE of the control, not SSW like I had planned, didn't realize this and headed east (didn't check compass) along the edge of the bush for a bit before realizing things weren't right. Made small bobbles (10-20s) on #7 (ended up at field to the south, rather than the one to the north), and #12 (drifted off course a bit in one of the fields). Felt like I had good speed in the beginning, but felt somewhat weak in the last 5 min or so. Came in 4th overall, 4:18 behind Patrick, 0:05 behind Justin Bakken and 0:04 behind Tom Carr.
Running warm up/down 24:00 4.4 km (5:27 / km)
shoes: Saucony Grid Excursion TR 2

Woodridge Park Long - Splits

Friday Nov 30

Running 12:00 [1] 2.2 km (5:27 / km)
shoes: Saucony Grid Excursion TR 2
After getting to Council Bluffs in the evening... dodging traffic, and not a dodging piece of rebar on the grass near some railway tracks (didn't see it).

Thursday Nov 29

Running 31:32 6.8 km (4:38 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D old
Around on the roads. 5.7 km at a medium pace then a few minutes cooldown. Put a few small pieces of duct tape on the bottoms of my shoes, and that held them together fine.
Cycling (stationary) 15:00 [1] 5.7 km (2:38 / km)

Tuesday Nov 27

Running intervals 14:53 [4] 3.9 km (3:49 / km)
shoes: Saucony Grid Excursion TR 2
In the park, through a couple inches of snow. 2 × 1 min, 3 × ~925 m, 2 × 1 min. Times for the 925s were 3:42, 3:33, 3:38. A bit cold out for the first time in a while... -16°C.
Running warm up/down 34:00 6.2 km (5:29 / km)
shoes: Saucony Grid Excursion TR 2
Cycling (stationary) 13:00 [1] 5 km (2:36 / km)
Same as last time, looked at the Shawnee map for a bit, then did 8-digit number multiplication (answer was correct this time).

Monday Nov 26

Cycling (stationary) 20:00 [1] 7.5 km (2:40 / km)
Looked at the Shawnee map for a bit, planning routes for some random legs, jotted down some notes about the terrain, then for some reason multipled two eight-digit numbers (and my answer was off by 100 trillion).

Sunday Nov 25

Running 1:55:00 20.5 km (5:37 / km) +300m 5:14 / km
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D old
Birds Hill Park with MrPither and dkonotopetz. Planned on going to Grand Beach, but getting there was going to take too long with the shitty road conditions. Ran along some of the twisty mountain bike trails, over to the gravel pits south of the park, up the hills there 18 times (my total if I counted correctly), back around and along the rest of the mtb trails. Just picked a number for the distance; assuming 15 m per hill at the pits for the climb.

Had some fun going downhill at the pits, sliding and skidding in the snow or snow/gravel. But apparently that was rather brutal on my shoes, as the bottoms are coming apart now. Hopefully they can be fixed... probably shouldn't wear them otherwise since the snow builds up in where they're coming apart, and running with a bulge in the bottom of my shoes can't be good for me. The shoes would probably be okay if there's no snow, but I likely won't go for many snow-free runs for the next few months.
