Warm up.

WCOC Long, Coyote Canyon map. Started off pretty well, wasn't fast but was quite clean, though I quit after #12. Wasn't managing much more than a walk at that point and probably wasn't going to get anything out of slogging on with the rest of the course. Not good that I couldn't even maintain my slowish pace for over an hour... perhaps I need to look into taking water and decent food (part of a granola bar that's been in my pocket for an hour or two at 30°C isn't really appetizing) with me on the course. My navigation was much better today, only made some small bobbles for 1-2 min lost. Not too sure what accounts for the big difference from yesterday... guess I chose routes that relied on solid features and used my compass more in blander areas, and perhaps was lucky.
Running 15:00 [2]2.5 km (6:00 / km)

Soccer in the evening. Again, probably not really a good idea with races the next day, but at least I played better -- got two goals!

WCOC Middle, Coyote Canyon map, NW of Sundre. It seems that doing the duathlon last weekend was a bad idea, as I haven't felt good since then. I felt slow while warming up and didn't have good speed for the race. Might not have been too bad had the terrain been more runnable, but the undergrowth and deadfall bogged me down from the start. Navigation wasn't good either... didn't take care to pick up the cut line on the way to #1 and ended up at #11, probably would have overrun #2 had it not been visible from a distance, bobbled the short leg to #4, and made mistakes of around 5:00 on #5 and #11. So it was a pretty bad race, and I can't even think of one or two positive things to say about my run!
Running warm up/down 14:00 2.5 km (5:36 / km)
shoes: Adidas Swoop 2
Running 20:00 [2]3.5 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: Other
(Wore no shoes.) Ultimate frisbee and soccer in the evening. Probably not really a good idea with a race the next day, but oh well. A person with no arms and/or legs could have outplayed me at ultimate!

Friday Jun 27

Event: Western Canadian Orienteering Championship 2008

Running 25:00 [1]4 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D new
Urban Hunt in Sundre, SW of Red Deer. My teammate was Don Merriam. Spent 59 minutes out there, and I'm guessing at how much of that was running.

Thursday Jun 26

Running 4:00 [2]0.8 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Other
(Wore sandals.) Went for a walk in Medicine Hat on the way out to the WCOCs. Started to rain so I jogged for a few minutes on the way back.

Wednesday Jun 25

Running 48:00 8 km (6:00 / km) +120m 5:35 / km
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D new
Around the park. Did the hill loop five times, avg 1:29. Legs sore in the beginning, loosened up after a loop or two of the hill, sore again after five loops, and not too bad by the end. Guess I'm still not recovered from the duathlon. Disappointed by that, but it doesn't really matter as long as I'm able to run fast on Saturday.

Tuesday Jun 24

Running 35:00 [2]6.5 km (5:23 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D new
Around the park. Legs a bit sore in the beginning and better at the end.
