Orienteering 23:39 [4] 4.2 km (5:38 / km)

Park event at St. Malo Park. No mistakes (aside from perhaps going a bit too far out of the way to avoid campsites), also no speed. Haven't done any running in a few days, so that's nothing to worry about.
Orienteering 9:32 [3] 1.6 km (5:57 / km)

"Balloon-O" course... a regular course that you run with up to five balloons, and get time subtracted if you complete the course with the balloons intact (3:00 for water ballons, 1:00 for air balloons). I took two water balloons, one in each hand held against my chest, and three with air, tied to my wrist with string. Running hard wasn't an option, at least for the first 8 min anyway. One of the water balloons slipped out of my hand and broke on the ground, then I tried to go too fast on the run-in and jostled or squeezed the other one too much. With only three minutes taken off my time, I came in last place.
Running warm up/down 9:00 [2] 1.7 km (5:18 / km)

Cycling 50:00 17.5 km (2:51 / km)
To/from the park, and control pickup.

Thursday Jul 3

WCOC Sprint, Snake Hill map in Sundre. Lots of scrubby vegetation made some controls tricky. I had a decent run. Wasn't as slow as I was in the Middle and Long. Route choice aside, my navigation was pretty good, only made a 0:30 mistake when I overran #7. But I made some bad route choices on #2 (took the main trails all around to the south), #5 (started heading through the bush from the bottom of the stairs, and fell into un unmapped pit), and probably #6 (went straight through the crappy stuff and hit the main trail ~75 m north of the control).
Running warm up/down 15:00 [1] 2.5 km (6:00 / km)

Orienteering 4:19 [4] 1.1 km (3:55 / km)

Sprint Challenge Round 1, Heat 3 at the Sundre Highschool athletic field. The courses were pretty much 100% visible to spectators. Others randomly drawn for the heat were Magnus, Matt, John Rance and my dad. For each heat, there was a mass start and three loops to run, and 48 possible course variations (different loop order, clockwise or anticlockwise each loop). No control codes were provided and there was a 1:00 penalty for each mispunch. Had a shaky start, even though the navigation turned out to be fairly trivial. Mistook the tennis court fence for the ball diamond fence on my second control, lost a few seconds there, and almost missed the straight route through the ball diamond to #3. The rest was good. Came in 2nd, 0:04 behind Magnus and 0:14 ahead of Matt.
Orienteering 4:23 [4] 1.1 km (3:59 / km)

Sprint Challenge Round 2, Heat 1. Others in the heat were Patrick, Alaric, Adrian and John Rance again. Good run, no mistakes, though I didn't see #11 on the map at first and almost skipped it. Came in 2nd, only 0:25 behind Patrick, though he was probably taking it easy, and 0:17 ahead of Adrian and Alaric. There was to be a final round (with an A-final, B-final, etc. based on qualifying round results), but it was cancelled because a thunderstorm was rolling in. Results were based on just the qualifying rounds (10 points for winning a heat, 6 for 2nd, 4 for 3rd, 3 for 4th and 2 for 5th), and I was 7th. Ahead were Patrick, Brian, Magnus, Clarence, Jonathan and Geir.
