Hawn is a beautiful place, but I think that camping in a WalMart parking lot would be quieter than summer weekends in Missouri SP campgrounds.

Not only do you have the general high levels of noise in the mornings and in the evenings, but the groups that absolutely must share their listening pleasure with the entire campground.

A group showed up across the loop from us at oh-dark-hundred this morning and began constructing the Taj Mahal for a campsite. I can live with the car-doors, air pumps, etc, but I have to draw the line at the radio blasting at 5:30 in the morning. Even the 32db earplugs weren't enough....

Hung around camp until our friends arrived and then took a hike up Pickle Creek for some wading and climbing on rocks. A good sized northern water snake kept careful watch on us as we borrowed it's swimming hole. Made the return trip on the whispering pine trail up on the bluffs overlooking the valley.

Later in the afternoon, we broke out the pvc pipe pieces and the kids constructed marshmellow guns and fired off a bag of mini-marshmellows at each other. Lots of fun.

Walking 45:00 [2]
Camping at Hawn SP this weekend, leave Friday, back on Monday.

Arrived about 8:30 PM, got camp setup. @ about 10:30, had to hunt for cell signal to take a 911 call from EX regarding a death in her family. Walked nearly to top of big hill from the campground....

Needed some exercise anyway and it was a pleasant evening.

Kirkwood hills + webster loop. Backed off on effort, but the time difference from Monday on the Kwd hills portion was only about 5 minutes slower. Part of that was waiting a really long time (2 or 3 minutes) at a traffic light.

Ate too much yesterday.
