Paddling 37:50 [5] 2.5 mi (15:08 / mi)
slept:9.5 (injured)

Sunny, light breeze, 60F. 'Bout perfect.
Blew away my previous PR by more than 3 minutes. Was whipped at the end. Avg speed was 3.97 mph. I think my calculated 'max' or threshhold hull speed for an Otter is <= 4.1 mph. So theoretically, I should be able to shave another 1:30ish off the time with a 'perfect' paddle effort.

Paddling 42:45 [3] 2.5 mi (17:06 / mi)
slept:6.0 (injured)

The lake was glass smooth early, but I made pancakes for my niece and her 2 friends, and the rest of the family. By the time I got out the wind had picked up so it was another trip around the lake with wind and waves. If it dies down, I'll do another circuit this afternoon but it's blowing at 26mph right now.

Walking on the ankle is ok, but stairs are tough.

Paddling 41:09 [4] 2.5 mi (16:28 / mi)
(injured)

Homemade pizza: green olives, black olives, pesto, s-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, black forest ham, banana peppers, spinach.... Ate way too much. Washed the pizza down with a Leinenkugel Dark Creamy Lager. The beer and the pizza were both excellent.

About 8:45, it seemed like the wind had dropped off enough for a quick twilight paddle around the lake. I was wrong about the wind. It had shifted from W to NNW. Got soaked the last 300m which were straight into the wind and waves. Paddling in near darkness with waves and wind is a strange sensory experience. The waves combined with the limited visibility make it seem like your moving fastere than you are, and sometimes in directions that you're not really going. Kind of like when you're sitting still in your car and the car next to you starts to back out and you momentarily feel like you're the one moving. Anyway, besides the wind it was a beautiful evening: clear skies, crescent moon, stars, 58F, no other boats out. Perfected the 'dry foot' entry and exit. Startled a duck that returned the service.

I think the 4109 is a PR...

Spent a lot of time on my feet today. Ankle is tender but doing well. 2nd and 4th toes look pretty ugly. 4th to feels ugly. Might try to get my bike shoes on tomorrow just out of curiosity.

Doesn't hurt today like the doc predicted, but I definitely won't be racing Saturday.

Stretching 10:00 [1]

Cycling 1:48:00 [3] 39.0 km (2:46 / km)
slept:7.0 shoes: pearl cycle MTB

To Hale and back... Easy spin on the big ring. Don't know if it counts as a depletion ride. Hadn't eaten for 12 hours so initial glycogen stores should have been below normal. Was tired and starving when I got home.

Note
(injured)

Grade 2 sprain, right ankle. 3rd and 4th toes of R foot also sprained. Nothing broken, nothing torn. ER Doc says aircast and no activity for two weeks. That was actually pretty good news. I thought I'd broken the toes and maybe torn the peroneus.

Water skiing. 25-30 mph. Slalom (I got up!!). Right foot forward. I went over sideways to the left. Ski stopped, rotating down (tip into the water) and in (left ski edge up). Foot wedged in binding. My momentum rips foot out of binding sideways. Owww. That hurts. No adventure race this weekend. That sucks.

It really hurt on the way to the ER and getting checked in, but it doesn't hurt all that bad right now. I suspect that will change tomorrow.

Strength 1:10:00 [3] 8.4 mi (8:20 / mi)
slept:7.0 shoes: ASICS #2

Went a bit farther than I had originally intended. Most of the distance was on sandy gravel.

Stretching 15:00 [1]

Paddling 44:30 [4] 2.5 mi (17:48 / mi)

Around the lake. Windy with lots of waves. Water into the cockpit a couple of times.

Stretching 10:00 [1]

Cycling 2:15:00 [4] 52.0 km (2:36 / km)
slept:6.5 shoes: pearl cycle MTB

Route.
Fairly flat. The hills on the route are long with shallow grades. About 5 miles worth of sandy fire roads.

Strength (Water Skiing) 20:00 [4]

More attempts at starting on single ski. Actually made it out of the water but lost control after about 5 seconds.... Legs are mildly toasted from the ride this morning.

Note

Saw an extremely cool meteor last night. Started right overhead and travelled from north to south with increasing intensity as it went. Bright, and wide lime-green trail turning to a brilliiant white flare, an explosion, and another brilliant white flare dying out just above the horizon.

Strength (Upper body) 30:00 [3]

Note
(rest day)

Unplanned rest day. Got up at 6:30 for a ride. Looked at the weather radar and went back to bed. Still raining when I got up at 9:30. Quit around 11:30, but we went into Tawas for lunch. Walked on the beach and around town. Got back to the house around 5.
