Stretching 15:00 [1]
slept:9.5 (sick)
Strength (weights - Cybex) 30:00 [3]
slept:9.5 shoes: ASICS
Swimming 15:00 [2]
Note
(sick)
About 9.5 hours of drug induced sleep. 50mg of benedryl is good for that.

Woke up at one point with my pillow and the neck of my t-shirt soaked with sweat. How does one part of the body sweat buckets and not the rest???

Decided to go to the Y. Sit in the steam room, swim a little, and sit in the hot tub.

After the Y, head was clear for a little while....
Note
For the record, I don't remember the last time I had a cold that wiped me out this badly.... Hopefully it follows the 'burns twice as bright, but 1/4 as long' rule.

Oh yeah, it's a cold.... Perfect timing, just a week prior to a big race. Well, I was starting to taper anyway. Maybe I can beat it in 7 days?.?

Stretching 20:00 [1]
slept:7.5 weight:168lbs
wake-up + pre-ride.

Legs and feet were really tight this morning.
Cycling (MTB on the road) 1:05:00 [2] 19 km (3:25 / km)
slept:7.5 weight:168lbs shoes: pearl cycle MTB
Easy ride around Kirkwood.
Walking 30:00 [2] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)
9:30 and it's still 80F (26.66666C). I've felt really tired most of the day. Long work hours and high training volume are catching up with me.

Tuesday Sep 18

Stretching 15:00 [1]
slept:7.0 weight:169lbs
Too much chinese food last night...

Wake-up and pre-run stretching.
Run 1:02:18 [3] 5.5 mi (11:19 / mi) +150m 6:29 / km
slept:7.0 weight:169lbs shoes: Montrail Vitesse #2
Full pack: 20.5 lbs. Need to dig out the actual race gear and load the pack up with that. Hopefully it won't be over 20 lbs.

Not very speedy, but time includes 3 gear adjustment stops. had to relace the right shoe on one of them, and mess with the pack straps the other 2.

Run 32:43 [3] 3.1 mi (10:32 / mi) +90m 6:01 / km
shoes: salomon 3D
Wanted to compare the Montrails with the Salomons, so a quick change of shoes and a yogurt drink, then back out on the road.
C • so which won - montrail or sal... 5
Run 17:48 [3] 2.0 mi (8:54 / mi) +20m 5:22 / km
weight:169lbs shoes: salomon 3D
Had planned on doing another 5.5 with the pack. But about 2 miles into the 2nd circuit, I started feeling some hotspots on my lower back where the pack was rubbing the skin raw. Cut the run short and headed home.

Dumped the pack and went back out for another 2.

All-in-all, felt pretty good. It's been a long time since I've run 10+ miles.

If I'd worn compression shorts under the runnig shorts, like I do for a race, I don't think I'd have had the rubbing problem.

Ice on the knees as a preventive measure.

Weight after the run: 165. I know I took in 50+ oz of fluids prior to and during the run.
Walking warm up/down 10:00 [1]
Post-run
Stretching 10:00 [1]

Walking 30:00 [2]

Monday Sep 17

Note
slept:7.0 weight:168lbs (rest day)
If you have (had) school aged kids, you probably welcome the start of school. The down side, however, is that inevitably, 2 weeks in almost every kid in the school is sick with a nasty cold. This year is no different. Benjamin definitely has a cold. Will says that everyone else in his class is sick. I expect he will be too by the end of the week.

Either I'm starting a cold or allergies are really bad. Can't tell yet. Had planned to do a 7 or 8 mile run. Will see how the day goes and how I feel this afternoon.
Note
(rest day)
It's been a long time since I was able to (had the opportunity) but didn't do some sort of work out. Still don't know if it's a cold or allergies. Vit C and Cold-Ez.

Maybe a walk this evening.
Walking 30:00 [2]

slept:7.0 weight:168lbs
Run 23:53 [4] 3.1 mi (7:41 / mi) +90m 4:23 / km

Tired legs. Last mile felt like I had a bowling ball rolling around my gut...
