Seyðisfjörður
A wide variety on this run including: asphalt, trail, gravel, rock climbing, waterfalls, marshes, sheep, fjords, and psychotic birds.

Arctic terns can be very aggressive.

The town of Seyðisfjörður would be a nice place to live IF you don't mind being isolated and living in a place that could kill you in a number of different ways... earthquake, volcano, rock slides, avalanches.

Same run as yesterday.

A whimbrel followedģcircled me for about 3 miles. I don't know if it was unhappy or just keeping me company, but the constant calling was a bit annoying.

Walking 2:00:00 [1] 5.0 mi (24:00 / mi) +200m 21:21 / mi

Day started with a hike up to the oldest pool in Iceland. Seljavallalaug. https://guidetoiceland.is/connect-with-locals/joru...

There is another pool a little further (150m?) up the stream where another hot spring meets the river. Just rocks piled to keep tje hot water in. Black sand bottom. This is the one to soak in.

We got there early so not many people yet.

Next to Skogafoss. Another massive waterfall. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sk%C3%B3gafoss
Lots of tourists but worth the visit.

Then to the glacier, Myrdalsjokull.

Black sand beach near Vik. Sun came out which was nice. Not much wave action which was surprising.

Walking 2:00:00 [1] 6.0 mi (20:00 / mi) +500m 15:53 / mi

Hike from Hveragerdi to Reykjadalir, a very active geothermal area with lots of vents, mud pots, aND the 'hot river'. The hot river looks like a mountain stream, but as the name suggests, it's hot water, and a swimming destination.

The pics on this blog are wrong time of year. Just imagine lots of greens.

Had planned to run this morning but got to bed too late.

Later in the day, went to Seljalandsfoss (Foss = waterfall). Best known waterfall in iceland.

Hveragerdi

Perfect morning. 45F, clear blue sky.

A random collection of gravel roads and trails.
There are a lot of hot springs and mud pots in this area.

Group of guys stopped and asked if I was running in the competition today. Huh? 12m, 24m, 50k and 50 miler today.

Might have done the 12 if I'd known about.

Wind is measured in meters/second. Was blowing about 10 up on the ridge.

Amazing amount of geothermal activity, especially up on the mountain sides. Signs say leave path at own risk.
